Whats the average Education level of PC posters

B.A. Comparative Lit.

M.A. English
So my education was designed to allow me to teach, but to date 1/3 of my life was spent teaching and 2/3 supporting the development and launching of software. Education doesn't prepare one to understand motor oil choices or the specifics of VSC, TC, and ABS. I feel so lost!

AAS in computer science 2002. I'm now 31

I am now working on a degree in Ecology and Biodiversity yet somehow I spend 90% of my time learning about ecophilosophy, politics, and education in general. Damn E.O Wilson, David W. Orr, Fritjof Capra, Paul Hawken, Daniel Quinn, Thom Hartman, David Korten and on and on and on. lol

 

GED in 1992 (quit Needville High to work)

Currently 4th year BS Elec. Eng. student at UTD


On the side I study:

Photography
Religion
Literature: American, British, and slowly moving into African

Education is great, but in a pinch, a litle dose of Ishmael and the Tao Te Ching
could suffice.

 

I have a BS in Organizational Mgt. plus 6 education credit courses. I also have completed 4 business courses towards my MS. In 1971 I completed the Police Academy and took some refresher classes a few years ago to be re-certified in Law Enforcement and Corrections.

Paris has a GED? One would think with all that money she would have gone to and graduated from a prep school. Then again, she appears to have nothing between the ears along with Nicole and Brittany.

I agree. Having a GED shows that a person finished their basic education and kept going forward in life. I once worked in a college GED lab teaching a 42 year old person the alphabet.

I'm under educated and definitely not proud of it. I wish I finished college and had obtained a degree. What's interesting, however, is that the degree that I would've selected back then, would've not been sufficient to fulfill my career interests currently. I have polar opposite interests now.

Interestingly, my Mom is a teacher and never pushed any of us to obtain a higher education.

Why wish for a degree? Just go out and buy books and watch the correct documentaries (with a glass of critical thinking by your side). I would say about 75% of my knowledge on environmental and social issues was learned outside of a classroom.

 

Thanks F8L. I do tend to self educate. I didn't mean to imply that I don't read. And, when I do read, I read non fiction so as to ensure that I'm gaining some form of knowledge that I didn't gain through school.

I've always been embarrassed to disclose my lack of education. But, I refuse to make myself out to be something that I'm not and I refuse to become a lesser person due to my deficiencies and inadequacies. I have to try to be proud of myself and of what I've accomplished in spite of my lack of a formal education.

It's also helped me to work with many people throughout my career who were very educated people, but lacked logic, social skills and common sense. It's helped me to see that sometimes some form of innate intelligence can be better than learned knowledge.

seriously. lots of people in my department with none of this "innate intelligence" that you speak of. or common sense, or any idea what's going on around them...

Well, my post wasn't to try to diminish what I think about a formal education. It's all just a way I can logically make myself feel better about the heaviest cross I bear through my life. Y'all who undertake this endeavor should be proud of your accomplishments.

I'll probably go back sometime and get a PhD, but I'm happy working right now. And with our first child on the way, it may be a while before either of us is going back to school.
