My ‘06’ is making a rattling sound that can be felt in the steering wheel. It happens very randomly, but more when cold and there is a slight pressure on the steering wheel. Will take it to the dealer next week. After reading the complaints on the 04 and 05’s, this problem sounds very similar. 06, purchased June this year with 6000 miles. Average mileage since purchase is 48 mpg. Addendum: Thought I would try driving with the steering wheel upright (not tilted) and found the rattle and vibration in the wheel stopped. Hope this will help the tech fining the problem. So it must not be serious.

My 06 has an intermittent steering issue: a slight "knock" that can be felt when the wheel is turned while standing still or at low speed (<25 km/h or <15 mph). When I had the 8,000 km service done, I mentioned problem. Unfortunately, it didn't happen when the technician drove the car.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(grasshopper @ Dec 30 2006, 02:17 PM) </div> The noise and now, some vibration, is getting worse, however when I take it to the dealer, it doesn't show up. It is now causing some effects on the actual steering....I can feel a vibration and it seems that the steering moves in jerks. Beginning to suspect the power steering pump, or/and it's related components.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Duane @ Feb 1 2007, 04:44 PM) </div> My 73 Pinto has what is called a 'rag joint' which is part of the collapsible steering column...no idea if this relates to a Prius at all, but it was binding and happened to cause some of the same symptoms you've metioned. You probably already know this, but the Prius' steering is electric; there's no power steering pump. I wonder if, with systems like this, the car will throw error codes? I guess if it's electrical/digital in nature...then again, if there's some sort of mechanical interference, I'd imagine it wouldn't...?
