I am thinking of using turbo tax for the first time this year, soley to simply the hybrid credit process. We usually file form 1040A (not EZ). Do I need the basic or the deluxe package?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Renocat @ Jan 31 2007, 08:04 AM) </div> I don't know about TurboTax, but for TaxCut, the premium package includes the price of the state filing software AND free e-filing. That's why I went for it!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Renocat @ Jan 31 2007, 08:04 AM) </div> I get the deluxe, mainly to get the state tax package. You'd probably be ok with the basic one.
Does the online version of TurboTax have the correct forms? I've been told there is a thread on this very topic, but I have yet to find it.
We usually just use the online version of TurboTax. I believe that it doesn't cost you anything until you request the pdf of the printed return or file the return electronically.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Marlin @ Feb 1 2007, 12:32 PM) </div> I've been using the online TurboTax for years and have been very satisfied - but the question is about the tax credit forms. Are they in there yet or not? I don't want to start the process only to find out I have to stop and wait for a form to be added. So - are the tax credit forms in the Online version of TurboTax or not?? Does anyone know??
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Rand Reed @ Feb 1 2007, 02:36 PM) </div> Well, try it and find out. I'm pretty sure it doesn't cost anything to fill out the tax return. You pay to get the PDF or to file it electronically.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Rand Reed @ Feb 1 2007, 12:36 PM) </div> If they aren't , then they soon will be. Intuit is usually very good at keeping their product up to date and on 01/25/07, the IRS put the correctly dated form (8910) on thier web site. I downloaded it last night. If you have the turbotax product, try the update feature and I'll bet the correct form goes in there. Here is a link to the form off the IRS website.... http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f8910.pdf
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Rand Reed @ Feb 1 2007, 12:36 PM) </div> Apparently the answer is no, not until Feb 16th.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(GreenGene @ Feb 1 2007, 12:50 PM) </div> Why Feb 16th? Did Intuit come out with a statement regarding that particular form?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Jim B. @ Feb 1 2007, 12:53 PM) </div> There are all kinds of conflicting information about this. See: http://priuschat.com/Vehicle-Credit-Form-8910-t29024.html FWIW, I started my taxes with TurboTax but haven't got to the point where they ask about credits. But I think I'm going to spend a little time this weekend on it.
They won't let me file until the 16th, but the form was up enough on Turbo Tax that I was able to see that I will indeed be getting the full credit. Between that and the sales tax deduction on the car, it's about a $4000 swing. Cool
Yes I did my Turbo Tax yesterday and they mentioned I have to come back Feb 16 to finish when they get the forms for the Prius Rebate. BTW Turbo Tax is free for State Farm customers / you need to access TurboTax thru statefarm.com. And Turbo Tax did know my rebate was $1575 for a 2007 bought in Dec . I was pleased so far . Form 8910 alternative motor vehicle credit This form is not ready cause we are completing final calculations to ensure accuracy will be ready 02/16
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Jim B. @ Feb 1 2007, 12:48 PM) </div> I did my taxes using Quicken 2006 Home and Business (CD) edition a few days ago. They warn you right on the form that it is NOT final. When I first started doing the input, I was getting near the full $3150 deduction....but when I really started to add in all my Form A deductions, my 8910 deduction started to decrease. I think I am pretty much done and my final 8910 deduction amount came down to just over $2,600. I will have to see if the final form download changes it much. I doubt it will.
Just finished my Turbo Tax today . Did it free thru State Farm Insurance if you are a customer , it's FREE . And that's both State and Federal and you can even go for the Deluxe vers . Premium I think was $20 extra and I don't think it worth it anyway . It messed up my stock option sale last year . This year I sold no stock . Now the 8910 forms are AVAILABLE now at Turbo Tax . I was told last week to come back Feb 16 to finish , but they emailed me the forms WERE NOW READY . I had a problem where Fed DID NOT ACCEPT IT so Turbo Tax just said to file again and few hours later IT WAS ACCEPTED . So I am done . 2/14/2007
Forget all about Feb 16th - I just finished mine with the ONLINE version and E-filed with no problems at all!
We did ours last night on turbo tax and never got the warning about form 8910. We will get the full $3150 credit This is the first year DH has agreed to use Turbo Tax. He has always done them himself. Asking him to e file will be too much of a change for him. So he will print and mail them in. We went through Vanguard and got a discount.
