I just bought a 2007 Prius. The last car I had had a 6 disk CD Player which had a "random" selection function which would play tracks randomly from any one of the 6 disks. It would automatically load and play randomly and switch back and fourth between the 6 CD's in the changer. The JBL Upgradd on my Prius has a random function menu choice but as far as I can see it only randomizes the tracks on the particular disk you are on when you select it and does not switch between disks to truely do random play. Am i missing something?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tideland Prius @ Jan 22 2007, 03:26 PM) </div> I was pleased when i got your response and immediately went out to the car and looked for that choice on the screen and did not find it. I then thought well maybe Tideland meant push one of the disk numbers on the screen and simultaneously press the random choice, but that did work either. I then tried pushing the disk button at the bottom of the consul and the random screen choice and that did not work. so I appear to be a dunce here. Where is the Disc Rand choice show?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(squall @ Jan 23 2007, 03:36 PM) </div> Gimme a sec, I'll pull out the manual. Edit: Well, I double checked with the manual to make sure I didn't misspell anything and I didn't. Above RAND is DISC RAND and above RPT is DISC RPT. This is the layout on my 2005 with the CD Changer and it's on the MFD itself. Now unless they've decided to play around with the 2007 audio screen, it should be there. If you don't believe, read the manual. It's in there. Anyone with an 07 Pkg #3 can help double check the MFD screen layout?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tideland Prius @ Jan 24 2007, 12:37 AM) </div> I held down the rand button on a quick trip to the store and "RAND" changed to "D. RAND" on the MFD display. Unfortunately, my trip was too short (literally 2 minutes) to test whether the song playing would switch to a song from another CD.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(MegansPrius @ Jan 23 2007, 08:58 PM) </div> wow.. so they combined it into 2 buttons instead of 4! Thanks for the check MegansPrius! There you have it, squall. They did change it for 2007. (or even 2006 maybe). Side note: That's kinda redudant though. This way, people who don't read the manual will never know that it can play disc at random or repeat all discs.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tideland Prius @ Jan 24 2007, 12:16 AM) </div> You speak the truth tideland! So i will try the button hold idea, and I guess I will look at that portion of the manual. Since i am only on Page 58 I guess I will have to jump ahead. As complicated as the manual is if I read sequentially, the 2008's will have arrived. Thanks for your, Megans' and Rick's help.
This thread got me to see if this works on my 05 Tacoma and it does. I haven't tried it on the Prius yet. On the Tacoma I can't advance songs randomly with up and down button (just plays next song). It will randomly select through all discs on it's own when one song ends.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tideland Prius @ Jan 23 2007, 09:16 PM) </div> Exactly, and that's one of my peeves about computer interface design. If a button (or menu command) is shown at all times (even if you're not allowed to choose it right now), you at least know it's possible. I hate the way iTunes (and similar programs) change the Play button to Pause. "Am I playing, or do I click this to play?" The only time I find this type of design acceptable is when there's absolutely no room on the screen to do it right.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(MegansPrius @ Jan 23 2007, 08:58 PM) </div> I didn't notice whether there was any change in the display, but on my way home from work yesterday I pressed and held the RAND button on the 6-disc CD changer of my 2006 Prius. I heard tracks chosen at random from all six of the CDs in the player. Oh frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! Having random play across all the CDs presents some nice options for music. For my commute to work I drive about an hour each way and listening to music is a favorite way to relieve the tedium of commuter traffic. Thanks so much for this information!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(RobertG @ Jan 25 2007, 03:53 PM) </div> I have a 1 hour commute and rotate between CDs and my iPod. I also get audiobooks on CD. It might be fun to put the audiobooks on disk random, and try to follow the storyline!
