DOES ANYONE KNOW THE SECRET? 2007 Base model prius owners don't have the AUX-IN inside the armrest. Since every other trimline out there does have the AUXIN, I am wondering if there is a simple OEM cable that can be purchased from Toyota to "plug and play" freeing base model owners to use this option. Maybe there's a socket under the armrest? Has anyone had a chance to look? Does anyone have access to the 07 PRIUS ELECTRONIC PARTS MANUAL (EPC) -- could you a take look and see? Thanks!
Really not sure, but in most cases vehicles are pre-wired for most electronics these day, worth checking into...Good Luck, and as always Happy Motoring!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Frank Hudon @ Jan 21 2007, 11:28 AM) </div> Yes but models above the base without the JBL upgrade also have this aux in jack.
All I can advise is to find a willing sole with the aux-in and take their dash apart until you trace the wires. Then try to order the OEM parts.
Next weekend, I'll try to take apart the armrest and see if there is any prewiring that's already included with the car. If anyone who has the aux-in could check to see how theirs is wired that would be cool. Can anyone post a pic of the inside of their armrest so i can see where it should be approximately? Gracias...
darrelldd gave the following instructions on how to remove the armrest/console--anyone else want to take apart theirs and report back what they found as to the AUXIN? i won't get around to it until the weekend... --------------------- Uh... no! 1. open console (now that I know what you meant by "armrest"!) and remove the rug on the floor of the thing (just pulls out). Remove the two screws at the bottom that you just exposed. 2. Remove front "cup holder" trim from the front of the console by just pulling it off the clips. Remove two screws from the FRONT/sides of the console that are now exposed - down near the floor at an anglr. Don't remove the screws on the side (in the middle of the console) that are difficult to get to because the seats are in the way. Those only hold the shelf in the console) 3. Console is now free. Tilt whole console back. It will still be attached by all the wires in the rear of the thing for power, audio, etc. If you find a screw that you have trouble getting a screw driver on - you don't need to remove it.
Maybe substitute this sienna aux for the prius aux, it's much cheaper. Dealer says that the prius AUX part that sits next to the power out is ~$70-$117 depending on which dealership you go to. The part number is: 86190-53010. It shares this part with the 4Runner, Yaris...among others. Sucks. I did find out that the sienna has a similar part: 86190-AE010 (~$20-$30) -- please see attachment. My guess is that there's a connector down there. The sienna aux doesn't fit, I am sure that the pins can be rigged correctly. No need to mount the aux inside the armrest. simply run the audio cable from the bottom of the base of the armrest. hopefully one the aux is connected the headunit will sense it. and you should see it on the screen. I've also included the wiring diagrams for the connector i think may be under the armrest. PN#90980-12209. Can anyone call the dealer to confirm that this part is on the prius? thx! p.s. all of you there who have the factory-installed aux...when you press the 'aux/disc' button, does it come up on the screen to as well? thanks [attachmentid=6314]
Any news here? I am currently trying to find the part # for the wire that connects the center console port to the stereo.
Even if you could install the OEM part I don't think it would be recognized by the master controller over the IEBus. I'm pretty sure your controller chip does not "expect" to have an AUX device so it will never look for one. I hope I am wrong -- please let us know how it turns out. BTW, there are plenty of posts concerning access to the technical manuals online. Best advice is to buy the 1-day access on a Friday because it usually doesn't get turned off until Monday. You can download all you want during that time.
The MFD, if set to Audio, just shows a message that says something like "aux unit is in playback mode". There is no other display or functionality through the audio system (except for volume control of course). Sorry, I'm not going to have time to try taking out my console out any time soon. Good luck though.
