I wonder if taking a road test in a Prius with the backup camera is considered cheating when it's time to parallel park.

Based on what I see on the road it seems the only qualification to getting a license is that the check doesn't bounce.
u dont need to parallel park in CA just park on the side of the street with a huge space usually just park behind another car
I think that a Prius makes a lot of sense for a driver ed car. They do a lot of slow, stop-and-go driving, which is a Prius forte. It also generates hybrid awareness in young drivers. My daughter's school's driver ed company used a 1G Prius. They retired it, unfortunately, just before she took the class last fall. They replaced it with a non-hybrid Civic--I don't know why they didn't get another Prius. Her driving with me was in our 2005 Prius, which she said had more power and a better turning radius than the Civic. She had the choice of learning on my wife's RAV4 and the Prius and after trying them both out, decided on the Prius. I'm very proud! The took her driving test in the Prius and she did have to parallel park. In the rain. The only downside to this is that now I have to share my Prius. It's not too bad though, since she walks to school and I can take the bus to work when necessary.
In Pa. you have to parralle park. They have an area set aside for just that. In fact that's the frist thing you do before you go out on the road. If you can't park they tell you to come back.
I drove a full size Chevy conversion van for the last 12 years and a Caprice wagon for 10 before that (and it was a REAL wagon, not anything like what passes for a wagon today). Parking a Prius is a problem? ...not from my perspective. It's one of the many pleasures I'm enjoying in my new baby. Ditto for the view out the windows. However, I do miss the big comfy captain's chairs in the conversion van...

I guess I have a bit harder time parking because my last car was smaller than the Prius (84 Chevy Cavalier), but I'm practicing and getting more used to it. I find that when I turn into a parking space that the back wheels don't seem to follow the front wheels so well and therefore I'm parked at an angle. Also have to be very careful when backing.
