Sorry if this is a dupe, I tried searching.

I am about to get the XM tuner for my 07, and was wondering, will it operate like FM text and not update if I am moving?

Only two things upset me about my Prius, the text updates while moving, and the lack of a "Range" calculation based on fuel left in the tank and mileage per gallon! Even my low-tech Chevys had that! ;)

    Thanks a lot.

At first I was confused about your question, then I realized that since I have a portable XM, there's no text problems for me while moving. :p

There's a speed sensor wire that you can cut and install a switch. Turning the switch to OFF makes the car think it's stopped. This allows FM text to be read and you have full access to your BT as well. Don't leave it off as it also controls the 5-minute bars on the Consumption screen and the turning wheels on the Energy screen.

Yeah, I've been using my Delphi MyFi, but I miss the built-in XM I have in my Silverado and had in my Cobalt and Corvette.

I don't really want to cut the wire, simply for the fact that I'll probably never switch it back and and never have the MPG Bars again. ;)

It just ticks me off that they block the FM Text, I feel like a child that has been sternly told "NO!".

    Thx.

After thinking about it, I think that the built-in XM will show information while you're moving.

    Tony,

The text function is not blocked out in XM mode... and once you start using XM... you will probably never use your FM radio again... so that won't bother you any more ;)

    Jim,

Thank you. This is exactly what I wanted to hear. I know what you're saying about XM, When I got the Prius for my commute (about 1.5-2 hours each way) I went through XM withdrawals. Three plus years of XM and FM cannot compare. I burned 6 MP3 CDs for the changer, but that's gotten old too in the last 3 months.

    Thanks again!

You may consider the Ultimate Lockpick 3 from Coastal for your FM-text and bluetooth needs, plus many other features without having to cut any wires. You can read more about about what these kits do that isn't explained in detail on Coastal's website in this thread.

Thanks, I've been looking at that for a bit, actually I called Coastal twice and left two messages in the last two weeks with no response.
