On my daughter's 2013 Prius C the lift gate trigger is causing the interior lights to stay on and also causes the dash light to show that the rear is open. Exactly how does the opening of the lift gate triggered everything? Where is this trigger? Can it be bypassed/repaired? Thanka, Jomo
just a wag, there would be wiring running from the hatch lock mechanism to an ecy somewhere to the dash light. likely a problem in the mechanism wiring but could be anywhere in the circuit. are you sure the hatch is closed tight, with no foreign objects in the lock area?
The switch is built into the lock and latch mechanism at the bottom center of the hatch itself. (Kind of a smart design, they put basically every fiddly breakable thing into one unit so it almost doesn't matter what's wrong, you just replace that) Probably easiest to replace hers with a junkyard part. Otherwise... Good luck!
You can try spraying some WD40 into the latch assembly and working it, about a dozen times. Hopefully it'll start working again. If it doesn't work; you'll need to replace the assembly - no harm, no foul....
