My mechanic recommended leaving the heat shield (see attached photo) off my 2015 Prius. A few days ago I noticed the shield hanging down, so I asked them to check it while the car was in for an oil change.

They said I could buy the plastic fasteners from Toyota if I wanted it reinstalled, but that the shield wasn't necessary. I searched several threads on PriusChat, and some said it was OK to leave it off.

I live in a cold climate, and can avoid parking over combustible dry grass, etc.

    Any consensus? Thanks!

Sure, no problem - OEM manufacturers love to hang useless, redundant equipment on their mass produced lines. It just adds to the cost and the customers will pay for it anyways.......:(:sleep::whistle::censored:

If you didn't get it, that was sarcasm........ There was a purpose for it. Will it effect the operations, unknown......

It's your car, do whatever you like with it....

Probably won't have a negative impact on the car itself assuming the heat transfer now doesn't impact neighbouring areas that the heat shield would of prevented/limited.

Also depends on how you like to take care of your car. If it was a question of a few clips/screws which are pennies you don't need OEM parts. I personally would just replace them and secure it. No one is going to look after your property the way you do.

Also why the hassle of having a thought in the back of your mind not to park in high dry grass or park here and there etc as you don't have a heat shield, seems counterproductive.

I replaced mine with an aluminum anti-theft catalytic converter shield.

If you're ever driving through death valley or some other super hot place, take a different car.
