Hi,I have a 2013 Prius C(obviously) I started getting problems with overheating and losing coolant, heat from only one vent. Fuses are good Relays are good No leaks Head gasket is good changed Radiator cap New waterpump New thermostat Radiator fan comes on when directly wired to battery only. I have an obd2 temperature gauge so the temperature sensor must be good. I am left thinking that it is part number 8925712020 cooling fan computer that is the issue. Any cheap sources for one of these? I’m gonna try the nearest scrappy next weekend if it’s still there, but I haven’t seen too many C’s around here(Edmonton Alberta).
Is there any indication of overheating errors? Why did you decide that the fan control computer 8925712020 is faulty?
Your overheating; losing coolant; no leaks - I believe a bit more troubleshooting is required with a better scanner. Re: OBD2 temp gauge, how do you know the sensor is accurate or the gauge is setup properly? Have you used an IR temp gun to verify? I'm just asking questions......
A lot more ways to get a bogus reading with an IR gun than with the car's own thermistor and an OBD tool. Of course if the car's reading really doesn't make sense (isn't close to ambient with engine cold, not rising plausibly as engine warms) it can be worth checking the sensor and wiring with an ohmmeter. The sensors are ordinarily pretty trouble-free.
