Just bought a 2025 Prius Prime. Love it! A real upgrade from my 2006 Prius. I know it’s not eligible for the IRS tax break but are there any active programs or incentives? This government website appears to be a clearinghouse, but most/all of the programs have already expired or are set to expire soon (the HOV/carpool stickers are set to expire 9/30/2025) Alternative Fuels Data Center: Search Federal and State Laws and Incentives I’ve wasted enough time googling; time to ask the experts! Thanks in advance for your help!
The current model Prius is made in Japan. My 2024 Prius Prime was made there and shipped to US. MSRP was @ $42,000 US before tax. My understanding is that cars shipped from Japan will have a 25% tariff. To me, that kills the Prius as it would be hard to justify over $50,000 for this car. In my opinion , the question is whether Toyota will put incentives in place or not sell the Prius in the US. I love my Prime but I just paid $325 to renew license tabs with WA state considering an increase to that to offset loss of gas tax revenue. I definitely would not buy a 2025 PHEV at $50,000 plus. Always welcome comments / thoughts…… Cheers
That's because a lease is commercial use to the leasing company, and commercial credit has different requirements from the individual one. Depends on them to decide how much of the credit amount to pass onto to consumer. The used EV tax credit applies, but the sales price can't go over $25k.
Thanks for the info on that Roy... I was wondering if any 2025 Prius on the lot might be exempt from the tariff.. assuming one can be found.. we have a 2011 liftback (w/93k miles) and a 2012 V (w/137k miles) I can't seem to get the wifey on board to think about replacing one of them. We do still like them both, but the new Prii's are a lot sportier looking.. if I replace the V, I'd have to look at a small SUV option and I don't really want to do that just yet.
The question is how many miles are added in a year for deciding on whether to rush on replacement or wait it out.
None have the tariff at the moment. So, if you hurry up and buy any Toyota, you will avoid the tariffs at the moment. It takes one–two months for the cars to arrive at the dealers from the ports; so, by June, you will see the full effect of the tariffs, as the prices will be gradually raised until then. So, in June, expect all Prius HEVs and PHEVs to sell for 25% more, minus the dealer incentives and rebates. In the past, the dealer incentives and rebates were about $7,000; so, for a $40,000 Prius, the Price should go up to about $43,000 after the new dealer incentives and rebates—so, no big deal really for the customers, albeit a lot of profit loss for Toyota.
When I bought my 2024 Prime last February, the only incentive was for a lease. The Prime was in tight supply and hard to find. Dealer price was MSRP with no markup other than a few port installed options such as rubber floor mats which I wanted. Cheers
The current incentive is : Buy now at MSRP before the inventory is gone, and the price will go up by 5K thanks to the orange genius' tariffs.
Lease the car out and buy it out same week to take advantage of the TFS $4500 lease credit. I had to do this recently but it mostly went to the BS fees all the dealers around me charge.
