Checking the systems on my 2012 Prius v the other day and I noticed the Hybrid battery cooling fan appeared to not be coming on. The battery temp on the scanner indicated the battery was over 90F. On the scanner the fan relay indicated on. I selected the option to turn on the fan manually, which has the options of settings 1-6 on the fan speed, when I turn on any of the power levels the fan comes on and powers up to 40% and then goes to zero and recycles again stepping back up to around 40%. I changed the fan out and the new fan does the same thing! Any ideas?

It's working as designed. It is a variable speed motor driven squirrel cage and temps in the 90s are fine.

I never hear mine running even on the hottest days because of ac use.

You do want to make sure the fan's air intake under the rear passenger's seat is not blocked by a kid's toy or your lost sock.

    Two questions:
1.What scanner do you use to switch the fan speeds?
2.Why do you think the fan should turn on at 90F?
