Looking for some ideas / options for powering my front dash cam with hidden wiring that will be mounted near the rear view mirror. I had everything torn apart tonight to install my stereo, but was having issues fishing wiring down through the A pillar cover to the interior fuse box, and didn't like the idea of leaving the fuse panel cover off to do an add-a-fuse anyway since it's so close to the driver's left foot (wet feet, water, electricity).
I ended up 3D printing that to give USB power and power for the V1 Radar detector if I want it. I like hardwired, but I hate the wire if the device isn't in the car. This just gets mounted to the windshield and looks factory-ish with no cords hanging down when nothings in the car. As far as wire running, I went down the passengers A pillar, and taped into the factory "cig lighter" for now. I'm trying to wire my dash cam as well. There are plenty of wires to tap into, but they are really thin and I don't want too much stress by the amperage to make things go wrong. There's no thick meaty cables up there that I can rely on to be able to handle the excess load. Yes, I could fish the wire all the way back down and tap into the utility plug, but that's a long Trek for the wire and I'm trying to avoid it. I have no problems feeding another wire up there off a different source but I don't know what I should tap. Also, my 2019 Prius does not seem to have a fuse panel in the usual location right by the hood release. Yay fun times
