If any LE owner in SoCal has converted to have spare tires and wants to sell the original 2-piece LE floor storage compartment, let me know. I would like to pick it up if the price is right ;)

You might want to keep an eye out on the Private Sales forum, that’s where I sold my LE floor panels after I added the spare tire…

Hello, I've read all 22 pages of this thread a couple of times and truly appreciate the effort that has been made to research and share this info (especially Hammersmith). I just ordered parts from Lewis Toyota. I gave them all the part numbers and asked them to confirm they fit my vehicle per my VIN, but they said my car didn't come with a spare by the VIN. Duh! They also said return shipping on incorrect parts would be covered on my side. Doh! My question is this: has anyone actually fitted the spare wheel and tire on their vehicle? I know the wheel is designed to fit a '24 Prius (and other Gen 5s), but has anyone confirmed that the wheel works on the car by mounting and driving with it installed? If so, was it installed on the front or rear of the car? Thanks!

I have a steel 16" toyota prius OE spare rim that l purchased based directly on the advice in this thread. My spare wheel/tire is ready to go, but l have not drive tested it on my prime yet. In a few months, when l hit 5000 miles and l do my first tire rotation, for the heck of it, l will test my spare's fit on the front of my prime (front because the brake calipers and rotors are the biggest) and will do a few circuits around the block. Will report back then.

Thanks, Templeton. I just purchased all of the parts for my '24 LE (around $860). I agree, the front of the car would be the most likely to have clearance problems. If I beat you to the 5K tire rotation, I'll ask the dealer to mount the spare on the front and then the back to see if there are any clearance issues, then report back here. I'm surprised that nobody has provided any details yet about the actual use of this spare tire/wheel on their vehicle.

It's mostly down to just luck. Those of us that have the spare haven't had to use it. While those that have needed it don't have one and had to be towed.

I'm probably swapping off my winter tires in a day or three, so I'll do a check if I have time.

I hear you about it being down to luck. I look forward to hearing back from you after you get to that tire swap taken care of. I received my new temp spare tire that I bought through Amazon today (FedEx delivery). The tire was delivered by FedEx without any sort of wrap or packaging. That was quite a surprise to me. But then again, I've never ordered a spare tire on Amazon before.

New member here who just purchased 2025 Prius XLE. Nice car and now looking at threads for spare tire install info. Have watched the very helpful video posted by Hammersmith but see that was installed in 2023 Prius. What about being installed in 2025 XLE? Also, where were the parts from the video purchased? I missed that. Thanks.

2025 is identical to 2023. For parts, you can choose your own dealership. I generally use Lewis Toyota out of Kansas(autoparts.lewistoyota.com) because I haven't found anything better than their 31% standard discount plus free shipping on orders over $75. But you can certainly try to find a dealer closer to you with the same discount(autoparts.toyota.com). I'd advise waiting until around Memorial Day as there will likely be a 20% off sale that will stack with the 31% off(for a total of 44.8% off).

I had to chuckle about reading "all 22 pages", as that's exactly what I found myself doing.

Just to throw more confusion though, when searching for the 42611-21280 rim I found the following interchange information posted by a junkyard:

    • 2011-2020 Toyota Wheel Spare - Toyota (42611-21280)
    • Wheel, Spare
    • 2022 Toyota C-HR LE, Limited, Nightshade, XLE 2.0L L4 - Gas
    • 2021 Toyota C-HR LE, Limited, Nightshade, XLE 2.0L L4 - Gas
    • 2020 Toyota C-HR LE, Limited, XLE 2.0L L4 - Gas
    • 2019 Toyota C-HR LE, Limited, XLE 2.0L L4 - Gas
    • 2018 Toyota C-HR XLE, XLE Premium 2.0L L4 - Gas
    • 2016 Scion tC Base 2.5L L4 - Gas
    • 2015 Scion tC Base 2.5L L4 - Gas
    • 2014 Scion tC Base 2.5L L4 - Gas
    • 2013 Scion tC Base 2.5L L4 - Gas
    • 2012 Scion tC Base 2.5L L4 - Gas
    • 2011 Scion tC Base 2.5L L4 - Gas
Could any of these be a donor car for a rim or maybe even doughnut spare?

I'm not sure why I spent $36K on a car and now want to save pennies, but humans are a mystery. I just want an economical solution to a spare when going on a trip.

Yep. I believe those all use the same spare wheel as the gen5 Prius.

The problem for me is that I'm a stickler for not using old tires. I'm comfortable going out to 7 years on a spare, and might even be okay with 10 years at the very limit. But that means every car on that list will either have a tire past even the 10 year date, or at least have used up the majority of its usable life. And when I was pricing junkyard spare wheels+tires, they were usually $75-$100. So I would be spending that amount on a spare wheel that would either need a new tire immediately or within a couple years, versus spending $60 now for a new wheel* and $105 for a new tire that I'll be comfortable with for 7-10 years. It just made more sense to me to buy new.

*$57.67 sale price several times a year - next one probably Memorial Day; $54.07 during Black Friday
**the above prices are current as of 4/7/25, but they could certainly change considering the current political situation

I was just airing up the spare on our 2010, musing as to how many get around to replacing the temp spare tire, ever. I did approach Kal Tire (well known Canadian tire shop) about replacement, a few years back, and they said flatly (excuse the pun) they don’t deal with spares. No recommendation for a shop that does either. Kinda puzzling.

ours look great btw, car build date August ‘09. But yeah, I know.

Swapped to summer tires today. Put the spare on the front(where it would be most likely to have a problem) and drove around the block. As expected, there were no fitment issues.

    Good to know.

You have an AWD, correct? If yes, are your front calipers similar in size to that of a gen5 prime (phev) ?

Same calipers. All three versions use the same part numbers(FWD HEV, AWD HEV, FWD PHEV).

Interesting, I thought that, due to the higher curb weight, the phev had bigger front brakes (rotors, calipers, or both?). But apparently not?

I'm half right, half wrong. The FWD HEV has different front calipers and rotors, but the AWD HEV and the PHEV have the same. I don't know if the difference is due to size or not. In any case, I tested on an AWD, so it confirms the spare will fit on all models and trims.
