I have a leak near the end of the brake pipe at the rear of the car driver's side. Please could someone advise likely repair costs. Would it be possible to drive the car 1km to the garage? Will the remaining three brakes work at all? The brake reservoir is empting as we speak. The leak is a drip that I assume squirts when I brake. 20250308_220608.jpg

Add fluid and see if how quickly it comes out... 1 km is a very short distance to drive. Just do it very, very slowly.

Call a tow truck. The parking brake is terrible at stopping the car so you would effectively be driving with no brakes.

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping each brake worked independently with its own supply of brake fluid and pressure.

20250309_073038.jpg Here's another picture I just took. Am I right in thinking this leak is from where the brake line meets the flexi hose. In which case replace the flexi hose and how would you deal with a brake line that is damaged the end. Can you cut the end off and attach some new to make the fitting good?

Tough to tell from your photo where the leak is originating. Try clean as best you can, then have someone depress the brake pedal and see if you can identify the source of the leak. There are many videos on Youtube detailing how to repair/replace brake lines. You would also need Techstream or some other solution that is capable of a brake bleed - can be a difficult process with the Prius.

It’s hard to say from the pictures. If you can drive it slowly for the one km, you should be fine.
Fill the reservoir and check it at short intervals. Bring extra fluid.
The brake line can be cut and repaired if it isn’t the hose or clamp

They have those sytems... They're very expensive and are used in competitive off road obstacles so you can control each brake on each wheel seperately.

The car is fixed. This morning the brake fluid reservoir was just about at or below the minimum level and all the brake warning lights were on plus audible warning beep. I drove the car in b gear and had front brakes still but not great so drove very slowly. Mechanic replaced the last foot of the break line although it was only the last few inches that were rusted. The rest of the line has a plastic coating and was fine. He refilled it and bled it using their machine and cleared the codes. £60 for line, £20 for brake fluid and £10 to clear the codes so £90 in total which I thought was good for 1 hour job especially as in the UK we have had a lot of inflation. He did mention rear springs are a bit damaged but wait and see at the next inspection if it passes or not.

    That’s a great price imo.
