I’ve been very quiet. I made a huge mistake. Please be kind. I'm such a mess about this when I should be excited about a new car. The good news is the funding I was anxiously waiting on came thru so I don’t have to be concerned about that part anymore. First off I couldn't wait any longer and brought home a CCH XSE in a color I can't stand because the silver one was too expensive. I'm having terrible buyers remorse. I haven't even driven the new car in a few days. Still driving my old Prius. With my in town conservative driving the CCH is only getting 28mpg. This now makes sense because most of my local driving is small town NOT city driving. I screwed up thinking my local driving would equate to city driving. I was able to get 38-40mph driving like a complete granny on a flat road going 45-55mph for about 40 mins. Why I want the Prius: Better gas mileage - important because of my fixed income Fun to drive...don't have to drive like a granny Spare tire will fit under cargo Prius Cons: Blind spots smaller cargo area low profile wheels phone charger doesn't work...not huge deal Things I like about the CCH: Not having to worry about the low profile tires Better view from windshield I like the style of the dashboard but otherwise it feels cheap but Prius does too. Easier to enter although I'm not so sure it's that much easier because I'm short Larger/taller cargo area Rear windshield wiper (how often do I use it) Power lift hatch CCH Cons: Lower gas mileage...I don't want to be working so hard for fuel economy Color is too dark and bright - it's so not me and won't age well at all. Back seats leg room smaller. I don't typically have back seat passengers but I use the floor space quite often when shopping rather than the hatch area. Moonroof...won't use and concerned about future issues Roof bars are very poor quality and supposedly the rubber strips fall apart per other owners. No room for spare tire-would need to buy a Modern Tire kit and use up cargo space. More weight too The CCH was more expensive because it has JBL stereo, power lift hatch and moonroof. I can live without these although I'll miss the power lift hatch. My local dealership is willing to trade in the CCH for $3699 less than MSRP and will give me $1900 off the 2024 Prius which of course they should have been giving me anyway at this point. Prius has not arrived yet. I wouldn't be paying taxes again and the doc and reg fees are minimal. Does anyone own both a Gen 5 Prius and a CCH XSE? Feedback? Obviously if I had money to buy a new car in a year or two it would probably be wiser to keep the CCH because it might have higher resale value due to it being a higher level model and maybe more desirable unless gas prices go up. Gas prices will go up. I most likely won’t have money to go towards a new car unless a big rebate appeared. Not happening any time soon! Thanks everyone for your time and patience!
"Lower gas mileage" The MPG difference isn't so huge that it's going to be a game changer for you. It's 45 vs 54. "Back seats leg room smaller." There is no way the prius has more backseat room, it is so limited in the gen5. "No room for spare tire-this really concerns me" You sacrifice usable trunk space in the prius for that if you add one. You can sometimes get full roadside assistance coverage for a few bucks a month through your insurance. My insurance is through my bank and offers it for like $2/mo. Toyota has roadside assistance coverage on new vehicles as well I believe. Don't sweat the spare. If what you said is true that the CCH resale value will hold then you'll get rid of it before you see issues with paint, moon roof, and roof bars. We're 3 years into this generation (5th) with no notable changes made. 2026 might be a facelift/refresh if they continue their pattern.
Thanks. I appreciate the feedback. I do have AAA but I don’t have a car to borrow in case I need to wait for a tire to be ordered. Spare would fit below cargo on XLE AWD so it wouldn’t take up any extra room. Just additional weight. Spare will take up cargo room in CCH. It was such a sure thing when I bought my 2009 Prius in 2015. There were loads of questions but I had no doubt regarding which car to get.
Congrats, seems like a great car. So far I've only experienced the full gas version but it left a positive impression. Blue Crush is probably my favorite current Toyota color.
Unless you put it in the back seat. You have the same car as dozens of other people who have reported their results on Fuelly. 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross MPG - Actual MPG from 74 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross owners Rather than judge your car by the first tank on a new engine, in cold weather, browse through those and see if they give you a more positive impression. I can't help with the color except to observe that you won't notice it much from the inside, which is the position from which you will almost always be viewing it.
The real concern though is something I hadn't thought of until just now, if you wait to get in one you risk new tariffs affecting the price. I didn't see Japan mentioned in the recent news for the 1 month extension, only mexico and canada. A potential 25% price hike is not fun.
