Putting your car on ramps can damage your concrete??

Full ramps are not needed to get to the front lift point with a floor jack. I have used some scrap 10x2 lumber pieces for this purpose. Run the car up on those, slide the floor jack underneath, center it on the lift point (somewhat difficult, helps to have another person spotting from the side), then crank it up. The first couple of cranks there will barely be room to move the lever on the floor jack, but after that it is smooth sailing. My floor jack can actually fit underneath without putting the car up on anything, but there isn't enough clearance to move the lever arm. It is a HF Pittsburgh 3 ton low profile floor jack. Had it for years, not sure if the current one by the same name will still fit.

In particular, gen 2 and gen 4 (not sure about gen 5), have front jacking point that's way back, more-or-less in line with the front wheels. Even if you can get the jack to it, it's dicey if there's enough clearance to get it started; jack handle bangs the underside first. For that low-rise ramps may help; just 3~4 inches should be enough. Relatively easy to cobble, say out of 2x8 on the flat. I made some with 2x4 on edge, effective, but maybe overly complicated.

I'm using a venerable Sonoma 3 ton jack, an older design I think (purchased 2005), the jack handle starts pumping practically horizontal, and it isn't constantly trying to spring up to vertical. Got it for $69 CDN, on a snowy Boxing Day.

(Gen 3 front jacking point is a walk-in-the-park: back about 15" from face of front bumper. One plus...)

Thanks again for everyone's help. I have ramps & chocks & other tools and supplies on the way. We'll do the first oil change next week. I'm going to use Costco 5W-30 synthetic, reviews seem to put it on par with Mobil 1 and it's about half the price. Cost of a change with a Toyota filter will be about $30.

I was using bulk Toyota 0W20, brought a container to dealership, was very inexpensive, till suddenly, it wasn't. After that fell through I settled on Costco's Kirkland brand motor oil. Everyday low price, what's not to like. Just yesterday noticed this video, comparing to Mobil 1, favourably, and cheaper:

The middle of the video goes on and on, I slept through most of it, lol.

Is the Costco oil really that much cheaper than the Mobil 1 jug from Walmart? At ,east at one time I thought Mobil made the Toyota oil anyway,

Walmart Super Tech motor oil from Warren Distribution is made by various suppliers.

If the bottle has the same large size cap and neck as the Mobil 1 bottle, it is made and filled on the same assembly line as Mobil 1.

There is no Walmart near me so I never price check there. But at Costco, Mobil 1 is about $6.70/qt and the Kirkland Signature version is $3.60/qt.

This recent video from a guy with Nascar oil analysis experience picked $4 a quart Napa oil over Walmart, Royal Purple or Amsoil.

    Ramps:
The real danger with ramps is cheap built units collapsing. Same goes for cheap jack stands. I think your friend heard one of those stories and did not get it.

Which is why one should always put extra incompressible objects under the vehicle in appropriate places to support it and protect the person working underneath. See the image in this post:
