That seems almost to have two separable parts, so that whatever I might think of the current US white house, it would awfully hard not to admire the helluva scrap Zelensky and his country have managed to put up while being invaded by effing Russia.

 

Let's hope the crowd is as supportive of Taiwan when the ChiCimms throw up that naval blockade........

 

I'd say I'm in the crowd supportive of Taiwan, much as I've been in the crowd supportive of Ukraine.

On the other hand, as deeply touched as I'm sure Zelensky must feel by my personal support, as a practical matter I think he's been helped more since 2022 by the fact that my government supported him (kinda using my tax dollars, yes, with my consent, and mostly using them to pay US manufacturers to build stuff, which I don't feel like complaining about).

The problem Taiwan might face, as with Ukraine in 2025, is not so much a loss of my personal support, but of that more practical kind.

If you look at this objectively, the previous administration really only had two choices:
Go Ugly Early....
Slow roll the Ukies and see how things shake out locally.

If you're going to WIN A WAR - you need to do the former.
If you're going to perpetuate a war and try to get out of it eventually 'on the cheap' - you do the latter.

Pay now, Pay later.

The ChiComms may be the Ferengi of Earth's nations but they will not happily forgive or forget what happened in the late 40's.

They tend to think in terms a little longer term than who is the latest 4-year Administrator here in the US.

 

Foolishly, Zelensky still thinks he can defeat the Russians and has no problem starting WWIII in order to do that. When he mentioned the US fighting that's the moment Trump went ballistic on him, and for good reason, this is NOT the USA's fight.
Zelenski didn't come wanting peace but yet another handout of billions.
But this war can't continue...numerous videos show Ukrainian military folks grabbing young men off the streets to force them to go to the front lines and fight and they'll beat them into submission. (Videos of them beating them into submission too...hard to watch.)
In the Ukraine, politicians are going to trying to get Zelensky to either resign or they'll kick him out....this could get ugly real fast.

 

Ukraine has a long history of corruption and Zelensky kicking out the Russian Orthodox Church, even though they've severed tied with Russia, was uncalled for....a direct attack on freedom of religion.
I just want to know where the billions of "missing" money they gave to Zelensky went to....let's look at his foreign bank accounts. (Probably bursting at the seams at this point.)
Yes Putin sucks but that doesn't mean Zelensky is some sort of war hero....not in the least.

 

The performance of the country he's leading in the war Russia brought to them has been among the more heroic things I've seen in a lifetime of looking.
