I tried searching before posting but couldn’t find a thread. My 2nd gen Prius windshield washer fluid stopped working on the front all of a sudden. I never use the back and noticed the back does not work either (maybe it broke a while ago or at the same time, I am not sure). I don’t hear the sound of the pump so I replaced the fuses for the pump and wipers (even though wipers work fine). Still broken. My best guess is the pump died but I’d like to ask the forum if anyone else has an idea what part is malfunctioning. Thanks
Fluid in reservoir? Reservoir outlet blocked? The hose to/from pump is kinked or pinched somewhere? 12V getting to that pump? Not sure if this applies here, but my Daughter-In-Law's Corolla came back from the body shop with nonworking windshield jets. Turns out that there is a 3 way plastic adapter (from pump, to left jet, to right jet) where the hoses had been reattached incorrectly. This adapter apparently has a backflow prevention valve, so when the hose from the pump was erroneously attached to a "to" port no fluid came out.
Happened on my 07 too. Both pumps failed. Replaced them with Toyota pumps. I also by mistake swapped the rubber hoses by so the front and backs were swapped lol. So…..label each hose and plug position before removing them.
Turns out the rear pump worked fine. Replaced the front pump with 3rd party pump from Amazon, super easy. The hardest part was removing the clip near the headlight. You are supposed to squeeze the tabs together and pull, I ended up just using a long flat head and popped it off. Cleaned the inside of the tank too, had some film buildup and both pump filter guards were pretty clogged. Everything works. Thanks for the help and the tip to label the hoses.
I have the same issue with my washer pump. It suddenly stopped working and I had no idea if my back one was working. I think it is the pump but am not sure. I posted comment on my Prius today. If I get any positive information, I will pass it along. Good luck.
Mine had the same problemo but doing some research...I found the following. when opeing the hood and looking down from the hood latch the left pump is the rear a and the right is the front. They look the same but but their plug ins cannot be mixed up because of indents molded in the plastic connector. The ones on sale look to be the type that is on the right. I bought today one on Amazon for $11.00. arriving tomorrrow !! I checked the voltage on the connector to see if I could swap the plugs in but that is where I noticed the plugs cannot be swapped ! I checked both and they had 12 volts and discovered which is which as far as which wiper it goes to. The other problem is the Washer low indicator light on dash...I cannot get any info as to where the sensor is...its not in the tank as the only thing that plugs in are the two washer pumps. Wiring wise the washer light hooks to the BCM module but I cannot find WHERE this sensor is...I posted this on another thread. Maybe the wife will have to live with the lite on eh? This info for a 2009 Prius
Can you clarify here which of these lights on the dash you mean? I have never known that the 2009 had a washer low indicator light, and your owners' manual does not seem to mention one.
The indicator is the right of the AC AUTO icon.......thats the defroster indicator for the front windshield NOT a washer tank empty Icon as I thought it was..my bad ! There are no washer low/empty symbols on the 2004-2009 Prius as I thought. Those years had only two holes for dual wiper pumps. left is rear and right is front with indexed plug-ins. There is no other holes in the tank to have any sensor for fluid detection for those years.
UPDATE: there is no such thing as a Washer Fluid sensor on 2004-2009 Prius. I mistook the Defrost Dash icon as washer fluid. Turn Defrost OFF and icon went out !
Just to clarify for others following, – just as it is with the human body, planes, boats, and ships,– the left and right of a car are always referenced as you look forwards from the driver's seat or standing at the rear of the car looking forwards. So, the rear pump is on the right side of the reservoir (nearest the RF fender), and the front pump is on the left (nearer the engine).
