I recall headlight adjustment (angle that the beam points) is a big deal on the East Coast. I remember 70s cars with their large round incandescent bulbs having this adjustment (which was quite easy to tweak). I've got to wonder if the headlights a modern car such as my 2007 Prius can be aligned. I almost hate to ask (got new HID headlights from dealer yesterday).

Can the headlights of a 2007 Prius be aligned?

Yes it's adjustable, but limited when compared to older car lamp adjustment. Since the dealership is replacing them, their also responsible for aligning them properly. If they can't get them aligned properly, their body shop should be able to fix that. They may have to 'shim' certain mount points to get them to aligned properly.
IMHO, for what your paying them - They should get it RIGHT. That is why your paying them highway robbery rates!!!

    Good Luck...

Dealer says the headlights were aligned. The new lights definitely work. So, I guess we're oaky now.

There's an adjustment on the back of the car near the headlight leveler assembly there's also adjustments on the units themselves under the hood I'm sure that probably nothing was needed I don't know what you got for the $2,000 I guess that was housing's with bulbs and ballasts because that's all built onto the housing assembly so there should be nothing to do except plug those in and turn on the lights and look ahead That's what the dealer did pretty much they'll be no fiddle farting around with aiming on the 20 some odd year old car You can believe that they might have even had this car sitting on a lift while they were doing this work because they have to take a nut off or a bolt off each side inner fender to allow the front bumper cover to slide forward enough to let go of the headlight assembly so they can lift it up and off the car then when they drop the new one down they just plug the plugs in put the bolt back in the fender cover and all that and turn the lights on make sure they work they don't do any aiming they don't have that set up anymore on the wall to check headlight aiming there used to be a thing that they wheel in front of the car but rarely do they fool with that now because of integrated headlights if they're straight on the car body they're generally aimed correctly according to the car shop and when you point to that headlight aiming machine over there they'll tell you all we haven't used that in years

If you want to verify their work. Go out at night and park your car about 10-15 yards away from a wall or fence line. A cinder block wall would be ideal, just follow the grout lines. Have your friend park their car next to yours. The headlamp beams, on both cars should hit the wall at about the same height - doesn't matter if the other car is a truck or Mini; otherwise your blinding oncoming traffic or pointed too low. The assumption is that the other cars' headlamps are aligned properly.

    Hope this helps...

The only reason I bring up the headlight alignment is because - after bringing the car home from the dealer - I waited until it was dark to test the headlights. They're nice and bright as one would expect. When I tested the high beams the difference wasn't so much - as if the normal beams are pointed a bit high. There is a difference between low and high beams though - just not as much as I would have expected. My headlights were casting light upon the road and trees directly in front - maybe 50 to 100 ft away. Again, there's plenty of light. My headlights indeed are very bright.

However, I can't put much weight into my casual inspection of the lights. I'd need to perform a better test to have a sound conclusion. I did text the dealer asking if they aligned the headlights and the Service Writer text'd back, "yes." The invoice makes no mention of a headlight alignment.

I like the idea @BiomedO1 suggests.

If you can clearly see the back of the driver's head in front of you or lighting up their cabin, It's pointed too high. My GMC truck is a different story, since my lamps are positioned high to begin with. My neighbors daughter drives a Corolla and parks on the streets. I lined up my truck 10-15 yards behind it and aimed my lamps just below her trunk lid. That's not an official alignment, but I won't be blinding oncoming drivers either. Going from HIDs to LEDs i did lose some distance, but I'll take the reliability anytime. Better some light than no light. I had to travel 10 miles with my fog lamps only, because I blew one bulb and one ballast - opposite sides so no headlights.
The high beam HIDs are suppose to go wider; you don't really notice a distance advantage because the lows are so bright. If you get out on a dark country road, you'll really see the difference.

Until I got my Prius, all of my previous cars had incandescent headlights. That golden glow just gives my eyes "the warm fuzzies" at night. High beams give "a lot" more brilliance - fairly close to the car (high and wide). The light color is close to natural sunlight, so the less sensitive "color vision" (cones) part of our eyes gets more use.

In comparison, the HIDs seem to have less light output, but I can actually see and make out details farther. "High beams" are not different bulbs or filaments, they are just little "eyebrow" shutters inside the assembly. Switching to high moves the shutters to allow more light out (slightly higher in addition to the existing beam ).

The color of HID (& most LEDs) is more white - less yellow. That's closer to "moonlight", so we use the more sensitive (black & white - night vision) rods. More details at distance . Less color, (less "warm fuzzies").

That's also why white lights are more glaring and annoying to look AT. It overwhelms the sensitive rods in the eyes

The fogs on my GMC are 3000K, so nice warm amber. Works great in the tulle fog. I usually run with parking lamps in the fog, so the 6000K LED light doesn't rebound back at me.

Check the headlight adjustment settings yourself.
