2020 Prius Prime and 8 keep getting this loud message about the “communication module activation failed” along with CarPlay being buggy - doesn’t always work. Don’t know if the two are related.

I’ve tried disconnecting battery overnight and message goes away for awhile and then returns. Dealer says $160 to diagnose and if I need to replace the DCM module cost is $1,000 plus.

On a side note the light doesn’t turn on when you open doors and the radio reception seems bad and every now and then when you plug in phone it produces a high pitch electronic screeching sound.

all this seems like electrical issues and I’d rather buy another car then pay to repair.

Has anyone else dealt with this?

Following. That loud message just started happening a week ago (about a minute after starting the car, every time) on our 2020 Prius Prime LE. We've had this car for 5+ years and (as far as I can tell) have never interacted or utilized any communication services. We don't use CarPlay and don't use the Toyota app either.

An unsatisfactory phone call to multiple Toyota support numbers says a trip to the dealership is needed to determine cause, though they suggested a "DCM firmware update" might be necessary. Unclear whether that would be a billable service vs. covered under warranty. Apparently that's the dealership's call, and I have an deep-seated distrust of our geographically-closest dealership service department, and the (slightly) more trustworthy dealership where we bought the vehicle is about a 35-mile roundtrip away.

Was hoping someone would have responded to your post with solid info by now . . .
