Low Roof line on the Gen 5 Prius

Yes it is lower. I'm 5'-10" and I dont want lower. the smaller size and lower roofline ruled out the Gen 5 completely.

 

Fascinating that Prius finally makes an iteration that looks way less ugly, almost like the graceful lines of the Tesla Model 3, when they should have paid more attention to customer needs in making a less ugly car that's extra large inside more like the Model Y, which quietly became Tesla's most popular, no doubt because of how spacious inside it is...

 

Yeah.. The Gen 5 turns heads now....including the drivers when they go to get in....It is a beautiful looking car.

 

I'm 5-10 myself and I have never hit my head on the roof.

My knee on the other hand has banged into button panel that's right there on the lower left countless times.

 

I'm only barely 6', but getting in and out makes me a bit of a contortionist.

 

This may be obvious but the only way for me (5'8") to get in and out of this car and not hit my head is butt first then swing my legs in. With my truck I just slide in directly with no contortions. Physical Therapists say butt first is more back healthy anyway.

In my 2025 Camry XLE the drivers seat, by default, moves back when turned off. It has 2 seat memories though.

 

The 2025 Camry may suit better but people say the rear seat headroom os low, especially if you get the panoramic moonroof. All 2-25 Camry are hybrid.

 

Could be. Fortunately for you, they make it in different shapes and sizes.

The RAV4, HEV or PHEV are good options. My con replaced his 2015 Prius v with a 2023 RAV4 Prime and is really enjoying it. His work commute is now entirely EV.

At least in the past, I have heard of issues with the Siena Hybrid. A coworker traded their due to safety concerns for a different Toyota hybrid.

 

That's how product-line's works. You have larger needs, you buy a larger vehicle. In this case, Toyota is offering Crown. There's a hybrid version here and a PHEV model starting rollout. Obviously, the push for RAV4 is strong and is intended to grow with battery production in North Carolina about to begin.

 

My Gen 5 requires a different technique to enter and exit the car for sure.
For me I find as I enter the car I swing my hits such that my left buttock lands about in the middle of the seat.
Then I can swing into the upright position without much trouble.
I also set the memory seats to position the seats low and back as much as possible before fastening the seatbelts.
Not really sure that does much but it doesn't make things more difficult for me.

I'm 6-2 and more than a year into my gen 5, and still very happy - rarely if ever bump my head. Any new car is an adjustment, and I've adjusted to the smaller interior quite well.

Seems they don't want to sell as many Prius in the US anyway, given inventory challenges, so you skipping your purchase gives someone else a chance

 

6 foot 74 year old here. Butt first works for me, with occasional head rub if I'm in a hurry. This car has a lot of stuff I could do without, but it has saved me from a collision so at least it is moron resistant. Had a suburban merge in front of me at 65 MPH with less than 10 feet separation. Scary with a tailgater on your rear end at the same time when you car slows down quite a bit. Might have to turn that stuff off in heavy traffic around here.

 

Where is the setting to turn off tailgaters?

 

What does it matter? You and at least one other person have decided not to buy the vehicle because of this. Buy a Camry if you want more headroom.

Toyota isn't going to change it to make it bigger again because the new sleek look has been received by the general public with positive fanfare (and rightly so).

So if you need bigger buy the Camry.

 

I never had that problem with the Gen 5 but I keep banging my head on the Audi A3. I think it’s not because it is lower than the average small car’s but because you are used to your Gen 2 with an SUV-like roofline.

 

the camry is pretty low too. our 24 is lower than our 13. lots of head banging and knee whacking

 

It's all relative to me. Still easier to get into than my MR2.

I have to lift my feet and lower my head to get out of the car. Once I'm inside it's alright.
