If I grab a donut from 2010 to 2022, do I still the 3-piece Styrofoam?
I have one pig piece Styrofoam that came with the car - 2017 P4

Sorry can’t answer that. I do know the rims and tire sizes are the same, but nothing reslly about fitment requirements for under the hatch floor. There are some threads here on that though.

The 3-piece foam is needed because the center piece is hollowed out to fit the spare tire. Your existing piece of foam is a solid chunk. The center piece of foam is pretty tightly fitted around the factory Gen4 spare. I am not positive if the Gen3 will fit with it or not. The contours of a Gen3 tire/rim need to be very close/exact to a Gen4, otherwise the foam won’t drop down far enough when assembling everything, and the carpeted floor liner might sit crooked or too high.

Gen 3 spare tire OD is slightly more. You can get the two gens tire specs from owners manuals, enter them on a tire comparison calculator site, to determine the difference:

Ok - @Optimus used a 2017 Donor - the forms worked for him on his 2016 - all gen 4.
@Mendel Leisk says donut from 2010 fits but unsure if the foams will fit - so safest bet is to find a Gen 4 unless its a shop that will let you try out.

If I were using full wheel, which years are a match to 2017 P4?
    From 2010 will fit?

From 2010 through 2022 for sure. Basically, every year with 195/65R15 stock tire is going to work. If it's just the rim, the second gen maybe also works, not sure, having tire size 185/65R15.

Minor rant: me and the wife walking our dog troop this morning, opining on a Ford Expedition parked in driveway: a relatively beefy vehicle, looked to be 17" rims, with a decent sidewall depth, making the tire OD fairly generous. Then there's the 5th Prius, Toyota's mpg "flagship", up here the only wheel size it comes in is effing 19". I think they've lost sight of the prize. :(

If memory serves correct, gen2, 3, and 4 are all 5x100 bolt pattern of similar sizing and center bore. If you are talking actual tire size, a gen2 was slightly smaller/narrower tire overall vs. gen3 and 4 which both start at 195/65R15. Having said that, any of the “full size” will be too fat to fit in there without raising up your carpet deck height. Hopefully that makes sense. If one were crafty with trimming the foam, you could perhaps make up for some subtle wheel/tire differences. But the factory donut is super narrow. Even without any foam, I think a stock 195/65R15 will push the carpeted floor panel up at least a few inches. Other people on this forum were ok with that, but I was not, so I just stuck with a skinny donut.

For Gen 4, the only vehicles I know oof with a full sized spare were sold in Israel.

    and @Optimus
The dealer gave me the part for the alloy wheel -> 42611-47441
According to eBay its only for Gen 4, 2016-2022!

In other words, the Gen 3 wheels are of different part # compared to Gen 4 - but you guys seems to think that it will still fit - if it fits as a spare why not. But if I find one at junkyard they will not let me return it! With tire and CA environ fee, they many not be cheap/

I can not figure out why the part # is different.

The alloy wheel stypes likely chaned. The bolt pattern, etc. is very likely the same.

The part number would be different for Gen3 vs. Gen4 wheels because the style of the wheel changed. If you are not familiar with wheel terminology such as bolt pattern (e.g. 5x100), diameter and width, offset, or backspacing, I would suggest researching. Parts are sometimes interchangable between different makes and models of automobiles, as long as the specs match. Gen3 and 4 wheels are basically the same spec-wise. Yet Gen5 Prius wheels will not fit at all. Wrong bolt pattern despite still being 5-lug and cannot even be bolted on to the car.

There are also websites out there like http://www.wheel-size.com that allow you to look up wheel specs on tons of different cars and trucks. I darn near bought a set of Toyota Celica wheels for a Prius of ours (at a salvage yard), but the Celica only had 3 of its 4 wheels.

Through trial and error, car owners sometimes figure out alternate choices. If too overwhelming (and it can indeed get complex), my suggestion would be to stick with finding a Gen4 donut and it’s related 3-piece foam etc….

I used Corolla steel rims for snows on our gen 3. They had a different part number too. A part can be physically different, but still compatible.

Gen 3 versus Gen 4 15” alloys have minor differences, subtle spoke changes, and the centre caps from one Gen won’t work on the other: hub bore is same diameter but the internal groove for locking the cap is shifted slightly.

Same for the temp spare rims: they’re actually diff diameter (16” for gen 3 and 17” for gen 4), but the OD is about the same with the respective tires.

There is no Gen 4 donor in my area - need to wait.

Curious about Corolla - unsure what years I should look for - weight of the steel spare might alter the MPG?

    From my notes:

Corolla steel rim, part no: 42611-02471 (2003-2008 corolla or matrix, CE, LS, S)

The weights are roughly the same as alloys.

If you want a utilitarian, Toyota lug nut:

steel rim lug nuts, part no: 90942-01007 (plain, open-ended, galvanized)

My set recently went "walkies" (loaned them to someone, car was totalled), so I purchased these, cheap too, about $13 CDN IIRC (attached).

    Perhaps.
2025 Camry LE has 16" tires.
2025 Camry SE & XLE have 18" tires
2025 Camry XSE has 19" tires.
Perhaps they find Prius "nuche" buyers prefer the larger rims. The hybrid Camry, however has a wider range to choose from.

For Canada it also only comes with AWD. Might be you're also obligated to have the sunroof? Neither of interest to me. They're NEVER on the lot, but I guess that's the same in the States, for the most part?

I have seen a smattering of 5th gen around here, I think the plug-in more prevalent. It does come with 17" rims, maybe also 19". I'm losing interest:

Can the existing lug nuts be used while the flat is being repaired?

2003-2008 corolla or matrix donut won't fit?

Resources like craigslist, Facebook Marketplace can be helpful to find individual people parting out cars. You may also find something locally on an internet forum’s for sale section too, such as on PriusChat or other sites.

Yes. The stock lug nuts (with captured washers) work fine, just look odd. They have a compatible taper at the bottom.
