Can you help please ? Read dozens of posts on "All Keys Lost" resetting Immobilizer, but found exceedingly few about resetting the new SKS FOB Key Immobilizer Chip afterwards - which is where I'm stuck. Hardware ----------- 2006 Prius TechStream (ver 18.00.008) MVCI J2534 Cable v 1.79? - Possibly (not certainly) version shouldn't matter as it was used to successfully reset Immobilizer. Toyota Prius Smart Remote Car Key Fob MOZB31EG Software ----------- Windows 7 SP1, 32 bit Java Installed .NET Framework 4.x - "Install Did Not Succeed" but .NET 3.5 is apparently "built in" to Win 7 and it appears to be there. Code from pin-online (Supports TS versions from 8-18, Octopus only vers 8-17) Process ----------- Using TechStream. From System Menu - Immobilizer - Utility, Immobilizer Code -- *** Immobilizer ECU Success - "All Keys Lost" Reset - showed 5 key slots available - 0 used. *** HOWEVER, now Can Not get a new Key FOB registered Firing up TechStream gets -- "Reduced Functionality "Techstream was unable to access the network "Some information may not be available. "Features such as campaign validation will not function in offline mode" So I choose "Offline Mode" Under Immobilizer selecting "Transponder Code Registration (STR-09-002)" It asks me to "Remove Key from Key Slot" (But the key was not in Key Slot - because it never gave an instruction to put it in.) So I put a new FOB in for 5 seconds and then removed it. "Insert the key back in slot - did that. Gets me -- "Transponder Code Registration has failed. "The Inserted Key is not currently registered. Do you want to try again." Retries fail half a dozen times. When I try to register the key from Smart Key (on System Menu) It responds -- "System Select Wizard (S303--05) "Selected System is not responding or not available. "Please check repair manual for applicable systems" ------------ Subsequently -- Tried Re-Re-Setting Immobilizer - Failed 8 Times I'm pretty much out of things to try. What jumps out at you that I'm doing incorrectly? Thank you
My understanding is you need the higher "Security Professional" access. To make things worse, Toyota has changed Techstream to a new version and has effectively disabled some features on the old version such as the ecu software access. Not sure about new key additions but that was always difficult without a working fob in hand. Many locksmiths do have Security Professional access, it might be necessary to contact one of them or the dealer.
Thank You RJParker ! Wondering if I should try an earlier version of Techstream? The European Pass-Code folks only support up to version 17 - hmmm. I also had Techstream version 7 running (the 6 digit Seed-Code kind (pre 96 digits)) but the Pass-code pin-online calculators only start with version 8.x You indicate techStream has "disabled some features on the old version" But if the software was released years ago - and since the Prius was built years ago - can't imagine how Techstream could modify any old software - except to re-release old versions. Not impossible, but never heard of any software company doing that. So maybe I should try getting Techstream version 8.x or 17.x running?
The disabled ecu calibration (software) capability required an online access to retrieve the software. That access failed on the old version even though a user had purchased a legal version with a current subscription. Security of the immobilizer was always difficult and required the Security Professional access. Even with a hacked version many have reported problems with aftermarket interfaces. There may be a way but pro locksmith help is guaranteed when no working fob is available to make adding a fob easier. This response "The Inserted Key is not currently registered. Do you want to try again" suggests that function needs a working fob.
Where did you get the fob? I don't know if that's the correct # for your car, but I wonder if it has a good RFID chip or not. Or if the dash slot works. (A locksmith should have a tool to check that stuff). Were there any codes in immobilizer-SKS systems (other than "no valid key" codes)? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
They (I bought two) are advertised as a "Key Fob fits 2004-2009 Toyota Prius Smart Keyless Entry Remote for SILVER LOGO (MOZB31EG)" So it claims to have the right number. (They are not Black Back keys - a common mistake.) Don't know how to test a key FOB, other than I have tried both - with no luck. One hardware failure is not unusual, but two - seriously unlikely - unless they suffer from the same PC board design or manufacturer error.
When both are bought from the same seller, it is not a coincidence. Have you disassembled the key fobs? Is there a board chip for the radio channel? Is there a chip hidden in the plastic that looks like a small black and gray seed?
Thank you for trying. No. I quoted every error returned (including exact capitalization. Note -your quoted text is not what I reported. See original post.)
Yes, I disassembled both, they have something the same size & shape as the RFID chip. Here's pics of the main board --
You didn't answer about the chip in the plastic. Look at the photo, highlighted in yellow. Somewhere I came across messages that some sellers do not insert this chip. Key Smart by MAX2 posted Feb 20, 2025 at 8:39 AM Key Smart2 by MAX2 posted Feb 20, 2025 at 8:36 AM
Thank you for hunting down the pictures of the FOB insides. I did answer above - Yes, each has "they have something the same size & shape as the RFID chip." But I examined them - there are no numbers identifying them as RFID chips.
