So I seem to have water collection in the corners of my boot, under the 12V battery, and the passenger side too. I can’t figure out where it’s coming from. No drips. I only noticed it when I wanted to clean the hybrid fan. There was a lot of water under the battery! Also, the date on my battery is 2016…
On Gen2, the rubber bands usually leak at the top near the Back Door Panel shock absorbers. Does it start normally 12В battery or are there problems?
This is a known problem in Gen 2 Prius. It leaks where the roof and the hatch meet at the gutter under the decor strip. Do a search of the Gen 2 forums (using "Advance Search") for rear hatch leak. This should bring up threads with good photos and descriptions of the problem.
You need remove it to the rubber plugs in each well so water passes thru as designed it's not spoed to take residence in they're. It do not in any of mine . They were flooded when I received the vehicle. One the first things done to all my toyodas for last 40 or so model I've had. The plugs should come out at PDI.
You better look again in your photograph right on the other side of that piece of metal strut coming down there's one sitting right there You poke a screwdriver in it It pops in there's one over in the other corner there's a few around the battery too carefully use a flashlight they're round black pieces of rubber there exposed like a 10 mm hole You just push them through with a Phillips screwdriver or you could take a pair of needle nose and pull them out whatever makes you happy then water will pass through and be on its way not stay and live It's just that simple If you get a factory manual I think there's a section in the body section that shows where all these plugs are or they used to in the manual in the body section for all models that all changed and whatever year it did but I know they're in my '04 to '09s because they're all removed and when I removed them they all had water standing in the spare tire well underneath the tool cubby on the other side where a battery could go but it doesn't and in the spare tire well under the spare tire so I removed the rubber plug that's right under the HV battery but in the spare tire well and I just leave it laying in the spare tire well now no matter what leaks in the car leaves end of story
If the back of the car is still open check both sides of the pack fan connector for corrosion. The water sometimes gets into that connector and causes the fan to fail.
I’ll do that. Thank you. I’ll keep checking for collection regularly. I removed the plugs from the spare wheel well. I didn’t know about any plugs in the corners. Any pics? I didn’t want to remove something, not knowing what it was.
A common leak source is cracks in the seam sealer around the top corners of the tailgate opening. As mentioned use the search function. At the front of both side wells there are rubber plugs just behind the wheelwell. The right side under the 12V battery is further down but similar to this pic of the left. Here's the inline connector that often corrodes. It has fan circuits as well as power for the engine fuel pump. Usual fix is to eliminate the connector and splice the wires.
