2011 Prius Sunroof Deflector Seal Deterioration?

if you read every threat about this, then you know the only solution is to buy a new seal
from Toyota, very expensive. Apparently, no 3rd party is making them, at least not that I know of.
And no one has seemed to alert Prius Chat.

Well, here we are in 2025! The seal around the glass sunroof deflector of my 2012 Prius detached last night without any warning signs of warping, deteriorating, or coming loose before full length of the deflector seal came off. I was driving on the beltway and kept hearing a thudding noise but it took me a while to figure out it was that seal flapping against roof. Drove the rest of the way home with one hand on the steering wheel and one freezing, cold hand out of my sunroof holding onto that strip thinking it would come off completely if I didn't. I thought I could just reattach it, like the glass would slide into a groove on the seal strip and I could pop it back into place. It obviously doesn't and was really stretched out by the time I tried anyway. Googled the issue and found this thread.

I bought this car used in 2015 from a dealership in northern VA. I will reach out to them to see what they say. No extra warranty purchased. I will share this thread with whoever I speak with about this issue. Maybe I will reach out to Toyota US if I get nothing from the dealership. I can report back here on what I am told.

I’m in Washington, DC and I always park on the street. We have the full gamut of winter weather ranging from mild winters with little to no snow and barely any freezing temperatures (sometimes for years on end), then we’ll get some winters with extended below freezing temperatures and polar vortexes, and occasionally (every ten years or so) we’ll get a foot or more of snow. Summers are almost invariably hot and humid with July/August usually in the 90’s F, sometimes 100 F.

I just read every single post on this thread and some people have had problems with leaking when the seal was removed, and some have not. Others fixed that issue by clearing the drain holes. We get a lot of rainstorms and wind here so I think I will clear the accumulated tree debris out of that are under the deflector and make sure the drain holes are clear while I sort this issue out.

Some people on this thread decided not to replace it and just removed it. A couple people got Toyota or the dealership to eat some or all of the costs, while others tried non-Toyota replacement seals, according to all of the threads.
