This should be very easy, but the manual isn't clear (or I don't understand).
All I want is to reset the 'tank average' MPG as shown in the manual - "Fuel economy" set (p.93) and press/hold "OK." nothing happens. I can zero ODO trip A and B, but not tank average.

I forget how to set it - was convoluted and deep in the settings, but it is possible to set the car to always show you tank average. That's how I have mine set up.

Once set up, there is no action on your part - it resets automatically when you fill up. I also manually reset ODO B so I know how many miles I go before next fill up.

Thanks. I'm on my 3rd tank and the MPG doesn't reset. That's the reason for this post. Any place I can ask this and find the "convoluted" steps?

    On the center screen?

Hit the car icon, then "trip information", then at the top of the next screen "history". On that screen the "update" button will restart the calculation for that tank and display prior calculations. I update each time I fill up.

Well on the gen4, tank MPG resets when you reset trip A or B. If your talking about overall odometer mpg tracking - I accidentally zeroed it out by either double clicking on the trip button or just holding it down too long when the overall distance odometer was displaying. I'm usually displaying trip A, which tracks my mpg per tank; trip B is my maintenance tracker.

    Hope this helps.....

Nope. "Update" only resets the MPG for that specific trip. Resetting Trip A and Trip B only resets those total miles to '0.' Doesn't affect Tank MPG.

FWIW, Tank MPG does reset on a tank refill. My problem is the most Tank MPG has ever shows is 36.2. I can reset Tank MPG, drive 11 miles on relatively flat land, MPG hx shows 48.8, but Tank MPG shows ~35MPG. There is no way a '24 Prius LE gets an average of 35-36 MPG. No way! Dealer says it takes a 'few tanks' for the car to break in. I can see it being a LITTLE of, but 20MPG?

On the screen in the center of the dash, when you are in Trip information, the "Update" button will clear the information calculated since the last time "Update" was pushed. If you press it each time you fill, it shows mpg for the next tank.

In order for it to only show mpg for a specific trip, you would have to be hitting the "Update" button for each specific trip.

On the driver's screen, there is a small portion on the left that will show trip efficiency in a number of different ways that will automatically reset for each trip.

Short hop calculations are always going to be inaccurate because terrain, weather, battery efficiency, heat demand (defroster, heater) will draw power - therefore disrupt your averages. A more accurate and real world number would be to do a manual calculation every-time you fill your tank. You'll find your car's calculations is a bit on the optimistic side. That represents your actual real world expenses, which is what really matters. IMHO...

FWIW; on multiple occasions my gen4 was telling me I was averaging 20+ miles/KwH. My normal is high 3 and low 4 miles/KwH, so you need to toss the outliers, because something glitched.

    YMMV

Correct. I'm referring to the 'Tank Average" over the steering wheel. I can zero that AND zero via "Update." Fill up, take a trip of a few miles. "Tank average" will show 35. Update screen will show 52.

I understand that. You are correct. I'm struggling with "Tank average" showing 35mpg when it is clearly off by 20mpg. We have a '16 Prius that goes to the same general places. Same A/C, same weather (over time), no real differences. Over year, the '16 has never been below 48mpg - overwhelmingly 51 to 52mpg. The best the '24 has done over 4 fill ups is 36mpg. That's not a weather/A/C affect.

    - Using up/down buttons on steering wheel, go to settings(gear icon).
    - Using left/right buttons on steering wheel, go to Meter Settings(supposed to be a gauge icon, but looks like a lightcycle from Tron)
    - Scroll to Fuel Economy
    - Chose Trip, Tank, or Total (I'm going by memory so the wording is probably off, but those are effectively the three options)

According to your choice, the average fuel economy will be reset every time the car is turned off(trip), every time the car is refueled(tank), or not until it's manually reset(total).

To reset the fuel economy manually, you can either press and hold the OK button while on that screen, or you can go into the infotainment system to do it(I don't recall how to get to that setting, but I remember it being reasonably self explanatory).

We were about 55 MPG per tank, but ever since I switched off the PDA safety nanny, my remaining tank average has increased to 57 and still going up. I think my next tank can go close to 60 MPG if I have the PDA off entirely. I recall my first tank got 61 and maybe I didn't turn on the PDA then...
