    Hey everyone! [IMG]

Exciting news! I’ve not only discovered another Toyota model that shares connectors to the back of the MFD/Radio with the Gen 2 Prius, but I also found a company that manufactures these Tesla style screens. I'm currently collaborating with them to make sure that these radios can showcase the diagnostics menu. Even better, since they already have access to the CAN bus from behind the radio, I’m guiding them to code in some extra data points! This means you could soon see vital details like coolant and oil temperatures right on your screen—no OBD2 device needed!

I’d love your input: what’s one thing you’ve always wanted to see on your Prius display? And quick question—would you prefer a volume knob or just buttons for volume control? The image here shows the units they currently manufacture.

Oh, and on a un-related note, Power Inverter Wiring Kits for the Prius just arrived this week! If you're planning to install an inverter, this is the inverter wire kit you should use!
I’ve tested and they work perfectly for high loads, like running an air fryer daily, without the wires overheating. Stay tuned for more updates! [IMG][IMG]

Oh and personally, I like the Tesla style screen with the knobs like the one I used on my blog article.

I'm interested, but there is one make-it or break-it question:
-Would this be a "drop in" replacement for the 2016 Prius Touring model?

I love the idea of getting more of the CAN buss details on screen. I've been on the hunt for something that would be a 2nd dashboard to show some of those. But I kind of gave up.
Having Apple Carplay would be one reason I'd be looking for a 2025 Prius. But, if the price and ease of installation is right, I could maybe save $35k or $40k.

If it matters, I like the volume knob for the radio.
I use the steering wheel mounted ring to change between the preset station list and adjust the volume. But, when I need it RIGHT NOW, I like to twist the knob.

I wouldn't have it any other way than drop in replacement. heck.. it took me 3-4 months now to finally find the harness with the upper mfd and lower radio for my Gen 2 do that the tesla screen can come to fruition and now.. I'm waiting for it to arrive and the tesla screen from another manufacture so that i can test out functionality. With me 3d scanning the dashboard, I'm pushing them to have the screen bezel include the side air vents on the gen 2 dash kit basically.,

Question tho. on 16' Touring... how to you control climate? in the radio or buttons/knobs separate from radio?

Are you talking second dashboard within the head unit? If not...i actually had a pocb board made that i use connected to the obd2 port. there is an ad card slot on it and i need to finish coding it all but... basically you can have a dashboard on a tablet using an app or.. the dongle has a webserver on it which allows you to connect it it or it to your router and in the browser all the info and even code clearing can be seen... then... for my final trick..

I thought about using one of these touch screen displays to show vehicle stats that i was most interested in...

The 2016 Model 4 Touring has the climate control below the main screen - it's all "mechanical".
The radio / mobile phone / voice commands are controlled either through the touch screen or the buttons on the left of the steering wheel.
All the nav is done though the touch screen.
The touch screen has options for the layout of data, but this is the one I settled on (the radio is on the left and the right will change depending on what it's doing).

More like the picture you have for the "before" and "After", except with a knob. Keep in mind that the knob turns on/off the audio (press) and controls the volume (twist).

My thoughts for a "2nd dashboard" mirror what you outlined. A small, unobtrusive display that will show any or all of the ECU's / CAN buss or ODBII data that might be floating around.
I miss being about to see volts, amps, temp, RPM, oil pressure, water temp, turbo boost boost, etc that were standard on my old cars (well, not turbo boost pressure). If it could show individual tire air pressure, that would be a bonus.

Everything has been thought out long ago. The Hybrid Assistant program shows engine operating parameters, MG1, MG2 speed, high-voltage battery voltage and others for free.

that maybe so but... most dont want to need another cell phone so they can have their main phone for normal usage... or even GPS... Some I do know especially with iPhones have gone out and purchased used Android phones on FB marketplace yet... I want all this info on the indash screen!
I actually had tablet running Hybrid Assistant and one phone running Dr. Prius to see cell info and had my main phone available for gps and calls. What's not available is a way to see data thats on both apps yet not on the other app...

    I'll put it this way.
The engineers simplified the Gen2 instrument panel to a minimum. Speed, fuel consumption, amount of fuel left in the tank (still raises questions) and a dozen indicators about the system status.
Most drivers (99.99%) don't need all the other information.
While driving, it's better to look at the road, rather than analyze the flow of 1000 data readings from the monitor located on the side.

heh.. I think you just contradicted yourself.. says use hybrid assistant on separate device but you don't need info, look at road. heh..

IMO, Coolant Temp, Instant MPG and Battery Percentage and Oil Temp should be on a screen no matter the generation.

Just need all this data to appear on heads up display and all is well.

ahhh i see says the blind man, I appreciate your time in this, will add it to my notes.. but look at this email I got today!

its been the oddest thing that allll others who dont own a Prius, love my energy and ambition yet... Prius owner wants to talk down to me and call me a scammer... or say my thoughts and ideas for what I want cant be done or other...

    upload_2025-2-14_7-23-5.png

but I think I figured it out.. I heard this audio and it hit home why they are how they are...
