Hello pals: my interest is telling to all others owners of the new prius 2016 & 2017 that my experience with my new prius eco 2016 that the MPG its almost fantastic if the person drive according with the car. I got easily 64 MPG without effort! And by the way, I got yesterday october 12/2017 83.1 MPG driving carefully to the limit of the car... In my humble opinion it's really difficult get other car than can be better that Prius in economy and quality, Prius is reliable to the limit. There are others cars more expensive or plently of gadgets, but not with the characteristic of Prius, than can travel fron Key West to Alaska go and return without problems... When the electric car arrive in the next future everybody must recognize than Prius was the game changer after almost 100 years of the same car type... No more for today. Bye and hello everybody...

The 2 passenger Honda Insight hybrid 5-speed was a solid 65 mpg car- sometimes over 70. Good to know the Eco is such a great hybrid.

I too have a 2016 Eco. I don't rely on the computer to give me my mpg. I keep a written record of gallons bought. I was getting over 72 mpg on driving in town but soon I hope to make a few trips driving 70 mph on interstates. Bye, bye 72. Hello 50?

Yeah, note the odometer reading at each fillup, and save your gas receipts, that's all you really need. I do reset trip meter at fill up, but only for reference, rely on the odometer: it is too easy to accidentally reset a trip meter. Also if you do a battery disconnect for whatever reason, all the trip meters are gone.

Once you learn the nuances of the car you'll figure out how to drive and get mileage most people can't even comprehend.

I recently read this post and thought no way.. so I traded my 2011 Prius with 235k Miles for a 2016 Prius Two Eco with 103k miles.

Wow. My first tank of gas was 64mpg. My second tank I'm at 67.5 and I fill up again tomorrow. I appreciate this information you passed on to me!

Those values are what the dash tells you? Do keep in mind Toyota can’t resist “improving” the mpg display, by approximating 7~8% (as evidenced by comparing to calculated). That aside, 4th gen does improve significantly over the previous gen.

from reports here it appears they’ve finally kept it honest, with 5th gen.

I verified my second tank. The car reported 69 mpg, the refill was 558 miles on 8.584 gallons = 65 mpg so you are right the dash is 6% generous.

Yeah it bounces around a bit, likely due to vagaries in how the pump shuts off. Toyota has "motive" and "opportunity": it makes the car more impressive, cheers up owners. Frustrating though, with mpg that's very good to begin with.

65 mpg is crazy good, way out of our reach, 3rd gen, and doing more short trips I guess.

In winter with highs barely at 10F, and lows around -10 to -20F, we got 50.1mpg on our 2016 IV. This is with 15” Blizzak snow tires on too. VERY impressed with the improvement in mpg over our Gen3 Prius.

I expect to get near 60 by summer once temps are warmer and I put the summer tires back on. 493.1 miles, 9.833gal at fill-up. A mix of some highway driving at 55-60mph, and a lot of in-town short trips (that drove mpg down).
