I am trying to renew the Toyota remote connect after the first free year expired. The car’s touchscreen does not show the QR code, it just spins forever…I hate subscriptions, but winter has settled in in Northern Minnesota so I figured I could use it for the remote start for just the winter months and then cancel..has anyone had this issue and is there a simple solution to get the QR code or digital code to appear on the touchscreen?

Just try again if you haven't.

I was having the same problem this summer. I got frustrated and decided to drive 30min to the nearest Toyota dealership to let them figure it out. Just before I left the car to walk into the dealership, I tried one last time. Of course it worked perfectly. I pulled out of the dealership and drove 30 min back home. Over an hour wasted because I didn't think about rebooting it first.

I'd normally say to reboot the head unit(press and hold the volume button for about 5sec), but I'm sure you've already cycled the car on and off a couple times since you wrote your message, which effectively does the same thing.

Another troubleshooting option is to try uninstalling and reinstalling the Toyota app on your phone. It seems like I have to do that every few months because of something stupid the app screws up. Just had to do it again a few days ago because it randomly stopped being able to connect to the Toyota servers to log in. After a reinstall, it works just fine(for now).

    Thanks for your reply Hammersmith

Haha funny that driving to the dealership worked for you! Just like when the baby had been burning up with a fever and suddenly the fever is gone just when you have registered at the pediatrician’s office!

I’ve tried both of the above without success yet. The good news is today was sunny and pleasant weather, almost balmy, when yesterday was cold and blustery so maybe I’ll give it a rest for now and see if there are any other responses to my inquiry.

I have read online that some have had success with calling SOS immediately letting them know there’s no emergency but they got this problem solved through them. Not sure if I’m brave enough to bother the SOS operator, though…

FYI—I finally did use the SOS button..an automated response asks if emergency help is needed. After responding with a “no” the next option was “do you need help with remote connect” which was a yes, which worked!

Yes pressing the SOS button worked! Immediately. Did not even talk to a human :)

What’s your parking situation? If you’re in a garage, not dealing with frozen windshields, and it’s got AC power outlets, I’d recommend the block heater.

Do NOT route the cable through the active grille shutters though.
A dealer in Alaska did that to a Gen 4 Prius user and the car caught fire overnight. :(
