Hi all, I'm wanting to install an LED driving light bar on the Prius. Wondering- is it safe to run the 12V connection for the driving light wiring harness to the + jumpstart terminal in the fusebox? (instead of connecting direct to the 12V battery + terminal) All advice appreciated. The standard headlights are useless for spotting kangaroos along the side of the road....
LED bars can draw just as much power as halogen or xenon auxiliary lights, all depending on what OP's getting. It should still be safe though if you connect it properly to that terminal. The wire between the jump start terminal and the battery is likely to be properly well dimensioned for its task, so I really wouldn't worry about it.
I have a couple of extra circuits added that draw power from the jump terminal (fog and running lights), and it's not a problem so long as the current draw isn't large. Just make sure you put fuses on any extra circuits you add, otherwise you'll blow the main fuse if something shorts (and replacing the main fuse is a PITA to replace). Be sure to look up your local laws in regards to adding lights to your car. I can't speak for Australia, but in the US, most light bars are illegal to have illuminated unless they are fog lights when the low beams are on or driving lights when high beams are on (and each of these comes with specific regulations for the height the light is mounted and how it projects light). If the lights are glaring to other drivers you can expect to get pulled over quickly.
Let me know when you find out how to attach it. I usually buy a bracket that sits between the license plate and it's "pod" on the bumper (wide European plates are good for this), but on the Prius it seems so flimsy. iPhone ?
As you can see in my posts that is exactly what I did and no issues at all, have all my lights wired there
i wonder if the 300w 52 inches is suitable for that jump start terminal, your idea would be much appreciated.
Did you end up wiring the 300w light to the jump start terminal? I’m wanting to add 240w lights and am nervous it won’t be able to handle it
