Summary: Sept 2024 - red triangle, mechanic scanner says hybrid battery needs to be changed.
Sept - refurbished Hybrid battery ordered on ebay and changed. Triangle goes away and car runs fine for 3 weeks.
October - triangle is back, and car is sluggish, mechanic says battery is bad. Battery returned and replaced. Red triangle goes away for 3 days and triangle is back, car sluggish, same symptoms as originally. Plus it smells like burning and inverter hot.
November till now - mechanic replaces inverter, coolant pump, one battery low battery cell, cleans battery corrosion. Works fine for one afternoon then red triangle is back.
I'm at a dead end, what are we missing? Any input?

You probably have corrosion in the orange connector for the battery ecu. Do a search in this forum for pictures and more information.

Yep... Replacing the hybrid battery and inverter wasn't the problem... Of course you learned that expensive problem already. The source of your problem is corrossion in the battery ECU where the voltage sensor harness plugs into it. Either clean or replace. Also negotiate something with mechanic for costing you so much money because they failed at doing a proper diagnosis. If they're a decent shop they should have some ideas to make it up to you.

Also if you let us know what location you live in there could be someone on here who lives near you who could fix it for you. For example if you lived near me I'd probably charge one hour to do this job.

    Ok, we’ll try that. Thanks.

My mechanic is very reasonable thankfully. But I am in New Orleans, Louisiana if you recommend anyone. Thank you.

Don't buy a refurbed battery from Ebay. If you must buy a refurb get it directly from one of the national outfits, like Greenbean. (Not endorsing them in particular, just noting that it is one large outfit with a long history.)

Yeah, lol. You do see the negative voltage showing on Block 1 right?

There-in lies your problem. Take a look at the wiring harness plug where it inserts into the ecu, and the ecu socket. Also make sure the wiring that attaches to block 1 is intact.

We look at the battery and see that it has been re-cut several times.
There are marker marks of different colors on the module body.
The harness of the module voltage measuring system is in a lousy condition, perhaps part of the wiring is left hanging on one thin thread.
And of course, the first pair of modules entered the negative range.

    This is cool!
Or rather, it is complete crap!

Two modules will not be able to recharge in the negative direction, which means the wire that measures their voltage has rotted.

So, more problems than just corrosion, huh?

Block #1 has a negative voltage because there is corrosion at the orange connector (voltage sensing wire harness) at the HV battery ECU. Look at posts #2, #3, and #7.

Take a look at this thread, https://priuschat.com/index.php?posts/3437054

    Look carefully at message 9!
When it was written, the messages from the topic author had not yet passed moderation.

It appears that English is not your native language. Some of the translations from you native language are not very clear when converted to English. This sometimes makes it difficult to understand what you are trying to say.

I have learned quite a lot from your posts over the last six months since you joined this forum. Thank you for making this forum better. You seem to be a very knowledgeable person.

Yes, English is not my language. I have to use the translator twice to check the meaning. Sometimes it is still difficult.

If you replace the voltage sensing wire harness with a new one purchase from a dealership and replace the battery ECU with one purchased from someplace like eBay, there is a very good chance that your HV battery problem will be fixed.

The corrosion that you are seeing, most times, is caused by water seeping into the trunk area. The water leakage is a very common problem on a Gen 2 Prius. So, check your trunk area for evidence of water leakage and fix it.

    And the mystery continues…
All the corrosion was cleaned up. Codes
    P3000 and P0AFA now disappeared.
New issue, the scanner is not picking up/ only reading 0 for every other cell. Scanner reads battery control/monitor issue. Ordered a new battery control and bus bar.
    Thoughts?

It would be better to see the photo from the scanner once. You use Autel.
The retelling may leave out necessary details.

Cleaning off the corrosion in most cases does not work. Replace the two parts described in post #15.

Code P0A1F indicates that the HV battery ECU has a malfunction. It needs to be replaced.
