    Was this normal?
    • 2017 Toyota Prius Prime
      • $30,000 new purchase
      • $18,300 trade-in value from Tesla Model 3 a year later
      • -$11,700 depreciation loss
I don't think cars are an investment as much as something that provides service until it wears out.

We're looking at trading in our Gen II volt with 62k miles, an OEM spare tire package & full WeatherTech mats. Lithium were still pretty expensive batteries in 2018 & yet they're still willing to give us $14k as a trade-in. Doesn't seem too bad for a ride approaching 8yrs (original lessee purchased September 2017).

Yet to be determined ... but that plugin Ramcharger is looking like something that oughta be near the top of the list. Higher ground clearance, 4X4 in snow, tow-ability .... That would be a scenario of going from compact EREV to a big one.

$18,000. Trade in equals $25,000. Sales price.
Not a great deal for used car buyers
