PLEASE HELP ME SOLVE TPMS PROBLEM (2012 PRIUS C TWO) *My TPMS warning light WILL NOT TURN OFF (even though all of the tires are at the correct tire pressure * How do I know if my TPMS needs to be replaced ☠️ ? *What happens when I hold the TPMS REST button TOO LONG or TOO MANY TIMES? Background Info: I took my car to get an oil change & rotation at a local shop. I drove a long distance, to a funeral, before I noticed the TPMS Warning light was on. I pulled over, checked all of the tire pressures & filled the tires that were low. Unfortunately, the TPMS WARNING LIGHT was/is still on. Right now, I am very uneasy to go to the same shop & tell what happened. I figure they will say something like: 1) After they serviced my car the TPMS WARNING LIGHT was NOT ON. 2) I drove away from their shop without any complaints thus, their service had NOTHING to do with my car’s existing problem I can understand where they are coming from, but I am “pretty sure” the warning light WAS ON & I DIDN’T NOTICE IT BECAUSE I WAS IN A HURRY. Oh I almost forgot, could you PLEASE PROVIDE “your opinion” on the Pro's & Con’s of having a mechanically friend change my TPMS? PLEASE KNOW THAT ANY & ALL SUGGESTIONS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED!
First, does the light come on and stay on as soon as you turn the car on? Or does it come on blinking, blink for a minute, and then stay on? If it comes right on and stays on, it is telling you about a tire problem, like low tire pressure. If it comes on blinking and then stays, it is telling you about a monitoring problem (so, it isn't able to tell you if you have tire problems or not, because of a problem with the monitor system itself). You can ask it for the trouble code, which will tell you more than just the warning light. There is a TPMS button for setting your preferred tire pressure, which many people mistake for a reset button. What it's for is to change what the car remembers about the tire pressure you prefer. When you use it, the car will remember what the pressure readings are right now from all four transmitters (whether they are right or wrong, good or bad) as being the pressures you want, and give future warnings accordingly. Doesn't matter how many times you use it; the preferred tire pressures will just be remembered as whatever they were the last time you used it. There's no need to use it if you haven't changed your mind about preferred tire pressures since they were last set. But if anyone has used it at a time when you're not sure all the transmitters were working and all the pressures were right, then once you get everything sorted you should make sure to air all the tires to your preferred pressures and use it again.
Hello ChapmanF, Thank you so much for your reply. I just read it & I am really. sick so I haven't been out & about for awhile. My head is really fuzzy right now, & I can't remember what the light was doing. I will check as soon as I feel better. The car is in my garage & no one will be driving it. I am only "guessing" here, but I "think:" the WARNING LIGHT comes on when I start my car: it flashes for a few times & then it stays on. So if that is true & based on what you wrote, it's a monitoring problem. You mentioned I can ask it for the trouble code. Who would I ask?I want to thank you for including the links, they are extremely detailed. I will have a friend help me out, I do what I can, but I know when I I am over my head. By the way, I am curious, were you the person who moved my post to the forum? If you are the person thanks a million (I am still learning the "System" here & I need all, of the help I can get! If you did not move my post, thanks a million for taking the time to give a newbie some assistance! Oh, by the way, when I read the 1st part of the link you sent me and saw the word BLINK.... I got a chuckle out of it. I know it isn't the exactly the same thing, but it's close enough. Here is my reasoning, I'm a proud Bostonian and around here we have "blink ah's" on our cars, not blinkers (lol).

Someone, maybe Chap might have reported your post to a mod and asked to have it moved or the mod noticed and just did it without a report. blink ahs You could ask anyone (well mostly anyone) that works on tires about your TPMS light. One thing it could be is the battery in one of the TPMS sensors inside the tire. If that is the issue, the way to fix it is unmounting the tire and replacing the sensor(s) with the dead battery(ies). Tire change mechanics can usually do that procedure. Finding a shop to do the work isn't usually too hard. But beware not all shops are going to sell only the service you need ie:if they find one sensors battery is dead they will sometimes what to replace all 4 or ( 5 including the spare, if it has one) sensors. Keepin my fingers crossed your friend will know how to check the TPMS sensors so you can ask for the exact service you need if it turns out that one or more of your sensors batteries have gone dark.
