your an idiot, solution not a problem

reflect you on how dumb you are:

this entire issue is over a dinky $50 head gasket, you can probably just put a new one and go another 100-200k mile

its a miracle your Japan hybrid robot got this far inhaling its own waste, suffocating, lugging you around your realm for quarter million mile, woah

this thread fixing to be the solution to bulletproof you're 1.8 Japan work of art / investment

simple statement: if you can get your engine to stop blowing head gasket, you will have a bulletproof japan robot that will go 500k without issue, wow

meaning, you are not THAT far away from having the bulletproof car, to keep your gold in your pocket

then, @MAX2 coming through with the sauce, telling you how to put an ecu from a prius without egr

showing you the sauce that you didn't even know exist

why you think it is HEAT that popped your head gasket:

you remember at around 150k the temperature light was coming on and you had a failed dinky water pump that shut down your Japanese engine

then after that, you remember it slowly eating more of your oil, where you can go long period just add some oil, to now:

you have to add 2 quart every couple thousand mile and episodes of crazy death rattle, trouble going up hill where torque is needed, it will sputter

Do not just fix your Japan investment and leave it with the same setup, you might as well just not do any of this, and just sell the car now, because:

it will 100% go bad and your work will be in vain and you will lose interest and hate the prius, NO

if you gonna ask your helper to hold your beer, and put your hands into the abyss of sharp plastic inside your Japanese engine bay,

you might as well make it bulletproof: all new pumps cooling everything, all new pistons/rings/connecting rod bearing, all the trash they put around your engine, remove it and toss it in the garbage

DO NOT put your hands into the abyss of sharp plastic if you do not intend to go the whole way!

    EGR/fart talk:

@rjparker say: just plug the EGR completely so that your intake cannot inhale its own fart, and just leave the check engine light on

but from what I understand: when prius idle without any throttle, your throttle is closed and your engine will inhale its own fart, but

since you now have that blocked, your engine cannot take in ANY air, not from your air intake or your plugged egr pipe

please critique this narrative, is it true? or

is the narrative: if you fully BLOCK the egr pipe, your engine will be forced to breath in actual air from the air intake since it does have enough space to pull in clean oxygen

if this is the case: then we do not need to do the nerd stuff, we can just plug the egr pipe completely and not let ANY of its fart go back into its mouth/intake

summary: this thread is NOT a problem, but a MAJOR solution to bulletproof you're 1.8 Japan investment and keep the gold in your pocket, that shiny gold

story time: George and frank discover egr and the lying narrative

George: hey frank, you hear they forcing them to make their engine inhale its own exhaust and they tell them that it run cooler because science?

Frank: your kidding right? that putting exploded gases back into your intake will make their engine run COOLER? woah, I thought the consumer was protected by something?

George: it get crazier, they actually will come at you with gun if you try to sell car without it inhaling its own fart/exhaust, across the whole realm, billion and billion of car MUST have exhaust going into intake

your brother and sister across the globe having their GOLD taken from them under the guise of "science"

Frank: woah, I read about this in the book but never thought it would be reality, but here it is

the lawyer that pull this off is on an island richer than you can EVER imagine, knowing that no one can get them, while

the peasant fight with each other wondering why their gold is gone, and they hand cut into pieces from the sharp plastic everything,

    trying to salvage their estate

    @Brian1954

no, do not purchase ANOTHER engine while you have 2 engines already (in my case)

    save your GOLD/asset/heart

There is nothing wrong with your engine with quarter million mile, all it need is a dinky head gasket

Your best bet: rebuild your current engine and make it bulletproof for the lowest cost possible

Why buy another engine over a piece of plastic that went bad in it? Meaning,

be you frugal in your ways, not wasteful

according to @rjparker , you can just PLUG your egr pipe completely, take out the harness, and your Japanese investment will not be inhaling its own waste, meaning

ZERO nerd method is required for your goal, making you closer to the bulletproof prius

At idle or during wide open throttle a functioning egr valve is closed and no exhaust gas is fed to the intake. So rattles and shakes on startup and low rpm's are not caused by the egr gases. Only at cruising speeds is an egr valve open.

The european or other overseas ecus won't work in a US car.

The sauce will cost some money and will leave a bad taste in your mouth.

You would be better off if you just buy a rebuilt engine and get rid of the old engine.

If we knew why these engines blow head gaskets, there wouldn’t be any

I don't think OP is going to be satisfied until he figures out the Brazilian recipe to an EGR delete. Too bad here in the US we don't like putting a serving of jailbreak sauce on fine, well done Gen 3s.
