Brake fluid level slowly going down after actuator replacement

    Replaced the brake actuator on a friend's car with a used unit that was working fine in the parts car. Car is back on the road and the brakes work as they should, no lights on the dash and just passed CA smog test. Good to go, except the brake fluid is slowly going down in the reservoir and the brake/abs/etc lights come on. Brakes still work as they should. Added fluid the other day the lights went off by themselves, but now the level is down again. I don't see any physical leaks (I'll look again though). Is it possible for the system to be using fluid somehow, self-bleeding out of the reservoir now that it's being used? I'm convinced there's a leak somewhere that I haven't found yet.

    Took the inverter off last night and checked the brake line fittings on the actuator and one of them wasn't as tight as the rest and there was a fluid trail below it. I tightened it and will see what happens but I'm hoping it's not a problem with the threads or a small crack. We'll see.

    Generally just tightening it like you're supposed to You should be able to tell pretty easily whether it's cross-threaded or not by looking at the ferrule closely. Give it one good umph and see what ya got You should be able to pump on it a little bit with the inverter swung out of the way hopefully you're not completely removing this thing You just undoing a few plugs and rotating it and sitting it on the frame rail or on the front core support while you work either way you should be able to turn the car on enough to pump the brakes with your foot you'll have a bunch of red lights on but who cares the 12 volt is live and the brakes should work and pump up and you should hear them making their noise and now you can actually look at the fitting again and see if in fact you are dripping leaking should you have to undo that one again and reseat it It is possible I haven't personally had to do that yet I'm always real careful with the brake line connectors and what have you One mistake with those and you're leaking fluid for life or being told you need to replace a line that goes all the way to the back of the car or something not a fun situation so always thread those up carefully very carefully
