If you're still trying to run cables from the windshield down to the fuse box, yeah.

But almost all cars have switched power available up near the mirror mount anyway. I did it the same way in our Prius and our Mazda, just tapped some power that was already there and had a reasonable amount of headroom on its circuit branch wire and fuse- and that's almost all of them, given how little a dashcam draws.

I know the Eyesight pod introduces some limits I didn't face in either of our cars but I know it's been done.

I'll agree that it would be nice to have this kind of utility built in, and that a sentry mode would be a nice step up from that.

    But at what cost?

I've just advocated for $400 dashcams to help protect cars that had sticker prices in the 20s, for one data point on the chart.

@Zythryn is there any indication of what the feature costs on that Polestar, or is it too baked in to their pricing to tell with a new model?

Following the Subaru manual, the dashcam would have to go in the corners of the windshield. Not a big deal, but the cam I have includes a rear camera. I'll be running wires over a distance no matter what.

The Camry camera goes beside the rear view mirror. Instructions place it on the drivers side but people have put it on the passenger side of the mirror.

    Could you finish that thought?
I have no idea what you are trying to express.

Especially since most people use Remote Star for comfort luxury. Most would agree Sentry Mode would be more utilitarian, especially in today's society.

Remote start is available on over 80% of new vehicles sold in North America according to the Googles.

When the demand for a 'sentry mode' reaches viability - markets WILL respond.

Thank you, yes I agree, markets will respond.
    However, they don’t respond quickly.

Early adopters get to deal with growing pains, but they also get the cool toys before everyone realizes how great they are;)

Remote start makes the man8facturers money in subscription fees. Will Sentry mode offer similar profits?

I guess I need to have a frank conversation with my CFO!
I've had remote start since 2012 and I was under the impression that there is no subscription fee.
For what do I pay a subscription?

Both of my remote start vehicles have IMEI numbers but they're deactivated, and I'm pretty sure that I do not get a bill from anybody for the privilege of using the 315Mhz RF band

That is not the current Toyota model though. They "give" you a trial subscription when you buy the car (mine is 1 year) and then charge. I think you can remote start from the key fob without a subscription. I am not sure how far away that works though. the manual only references looking at the vehicle lights when remote starting and it is not a simple button push.

'The current Toyota model' is why I've driven two Priuses for over 200,000 miles but haven't purchased a Toyota for well over 30 years.

They have got even worse since my previous purchase in late 2016. Now, they automatically send you marketing emails. When you opt out they just call them transactional emails because you bought the car. their useless unsubscribe link just goes to the marketing opt out.

I did no transaction with Toyota US, just my dealer. Toyota US is betting nobody is going to sue them over these illegal emails.

I told the dealer that I was not interested in any introduction services - INCLUDING the first 'free' oil change and I advised them that if I received ANY email/snail-mail/telegraphs/smoke signals etc...from the mother ship that I would become their worst social media nightmare.

It's 2025 and they've left me alone so far. ;)

i just signed up for the ones not needing any credit card information. IOW, I did not sign up for the pitiful trial of ATT Wi-Fi Hotspot.
