I was filling up my tires today and noticed this crack on the sidewall. I bought these Pirelli P4 tires in 2021 and have probably put close to 70,000 miles on them, mostly my interstate commute. There’s still plenty of tread left on them, but is this dangerous or just cosmetic?
IMHO; that's on the outer layer ply. Tires are made to take a lot of punishment. If there was a real problem, that area would start bulging. I'd probably rotate it to a rear axle position, easier to control the car if it should blow. Just my 2-cents......
Most tire shops would say replace to be safe. A blowout at speed is very dangerous and will ruin the wheel at a minimum.
What is the mileage warranty? If you have less miles than the warrantied mileage, you'll get a pro-rated refund. Something to check into. It's looks like something hit the tire and damaged it. The little cracking is not an issue, yet. It's that slice you should worry about.... What do the other tires look like? Are they the same?
