I've used Rain-X (1 time, not sure which model) and Bosch Icon (3 times). I've ALWAYS had windshield streak and chatter, even with a brand new windshield this year. No, the wipers aren't dirty, and no, there is nothing on the windshield. I've been reading rave reviews on PIAA wiper blades, but the PIAA site gives me options for the Super Silicone, Si-Tech, and Aero. Only the SS is a conventional blade, the others are beam. Which would you suggest to reduce the chatter and streaking?
I always have great luck with the Rain-X hybrid type with the exoskeletal pieces of plastic over the blade but essentially a beam type system works great usually don't have any clatter and any nonsense unless there's a lot of crud on the glass then I try and hose off the glass or do something else before I'm dealing with the wipers maybe spray the windshield something but if all else is not happening and then use the wipers I have Rain-X on my glass and all that so using my wipers is pretty rare event generally but I've had good luck with the Rain-X hybrids they're getting hard to find now Toyota blades are even a hybrid type very similar to the Rain-X with of course the Toyota logo on them. I couldn't tell you about the PIAA I've never personally tried them but I would imagine they should be relatively decent that company doesn't generally fool around with junk generally speaking.
Oem aero blades and rubber. The blades are reusable with low cost oem inserts in the future. Toyota v insert part numbers: 85214-47061 85214-47051 Rear 85214-12310 Blade, Front Wiper, LH 85222-47040 Blade, Front Wiper, RH 85212-47060 Blade Rear Wiper 85242-12090
I used the OEM blades, but replaced the inserts with a commercial silicone, instead of the OEM rubber. The OEM rubber lasted less than 18 months, before separating at the pivot point. I'm 2+ years on the silicone. I do treat the glass with Rain-x annually.
I find using the wipers to clean the windshield damages the rubber/silicon fairly quickly. I hand clean the windshield and major bugs most nights and live with dust and some bugs while driving. Saves windshield scratches as well.
Yes, it's parked outside. Yes, NEVER clean your glass with the windshield wiper - that's a good way to scratch them up. When you clean your windshield, also wipe the grime off the blades. Road grime settles on the top of the wiping surface and will scratch your glass on the first wipe. I don't turn-on the wipers until there's a good bead of water on the glass. That ensure a good rinse of the blades and less chances of scratching your glass.
I've found that the AutoZone hybrid model works without chatter, but it did have some streaks until I thoroughly cleaned the windshield with #0000 steel wool and rain-x. Also don't forget to occasionally run a paper towel with rubbing alcohol on it across the blade to get any dirt and gunk off of it.
