They’re getting in somehow. With a little luck it’s one place, you can find it, and stop them.

we’ve been plagued, and I finally started diverting some efforts from trapping to finding the entry points. In our case it apparently was through *#!?#% great voids in a attached garage perimeter foundation wall (which allowed them entry to underside of garage slab-on-grade), and then a $/%#* construction gaffe that stopped the main house perimeter foundation wall about 8” short of a t-junction. Thanks Coquitlam for the botched inspection.

after about a week of patching the perimeter wall voids and grouting in concrete block at the 8” gap, and laying a trench of lava rock along the outside (mostly to show evidence of digging), I set up a web cam, and sure enough:

Knock on wood that was THE entry point. It had dragged on, from stsrt of 2024 to late summer. Nothing since.

There was another in past: one of the crawl space vents had gnawed screen, and been pushed out (rats in that case). And garage door seal at the slab another time I believe, there was enough gap at one corner. Fixed those.

There were concrete voids right where he's digging, but all patched; you can see some of it above grade, the more grey color. The video confirmation made my day. :)

Yeah he's really frustrated: "this used to be easy, what's the hold up...".

@EchoToPrius sorry for the hijack. I think you’ve got a two-front battle. For sure do what you can to protect the car and trap the resident rodents, but also you have to find how and where they’re getting in.

I believe it is through the roof to the attic and it is a builder defect. My neighbor is going through the same thing.

Thank you for all of your help guys!

Go around the perimeter, look for voids, signs of digging, door gaps, dislodged grills/screens. Mice are worse than rats, can squeeze through any little gap.

Are you setting traps? Set them along wall perimeters where they'll travel, try different kinds. Peanut butter is a good bait. Wear gloves when handling the traps; rodents can detect human scent. Consider getting a motion-detecting web cam, set it up in likely areas. Look around the kitchen: behind firdge/stove/dishwasher. The latter's usually built-in, hard to pull out, and accordingly a good spot for mice.

I wouldn't put much past the mouse in your video.

    Reminded me of this one.
