You’re raising just the front, and quite high? That may drain more completely, considering the drain hole in the pan is at rear and up slightly.

That's possible. Maybe it was because I don't start the engine before the oil change. I do it first thing in the morning. I'm assuming there's more oil in the pan and nothing at the top of the motor by this method. But I'm not sure

Use a razor knife to cut out that section.

I prefer to start the engine for 2 minutes before changing the oil. To ensure all parts are coated with oil. so when it start, the bearings still hold more oil even with an empty filter. Although, 24h vs 2 mins makes not so much difference since the oil is sticky and drain to the sump fast enough.
I am not crazy about changing every drop. What important is getting a fresh oil without starving the engine oil too much.

I take the full engine panel off for access doing oil changes. It was every 6 months, but with our reduced use I went to yearly about 2 years back. Anyway, I can practically do it with my eyes closed now, I’ve had it off close to 30 times now. It looks like new, all fasteners present. Takes about 5 minutes removing or installing. Before reinstalling the plastic fasteners I rinse out the grit with soapy water. The bolts I put a drop of oil once in a while, and install by hand with a screw driver style socket driver. I have had to replace a few of the plastic fasteners due to broken tooth.

More info in oil change link in my signature (on a phone turn it landscape to see signatures).
