I would like to add CarPlay capability to my Prius V. I have the 57011 head unit with Entune and Maps. I am not sure what features I will lose by replacing the head unit, and I also don't know what additional useful features this may make available. I have been searching these forums to learn from the experience of others. Seems like a replacement will cause me to lose access to vehicle settings but gain access to vehicle gauges. It's important to me to maintain steering wheel controls and backup camera function. I am more confident in my ability to disassemble the dash than my ability to route the wiring for a replacement camera. If I understand correctly, it seems like my options are: 1. Upgrade to the 510057 or 510165 head unit. Do these have CarPlay? 2. Buy an external unit rather than replace the head unit. Any recommendations? Are there other considerations I am missing? None of the USA stock head units for that car are CarPlay capable. Some will let you link Bluetooth audio, but that's all. You need to do a wholesale swap to an aftermarket system. There's a marketplace of new ones available via eBay now. They are not well-known brands. They sometimes have interesting quality problems, so don't spend too much or too little. A few Priuschat users have installed systems like these in their cars and shared detailed results. I don't have any direct links but maybe somebody will cough one up.
Thanks rjp. Between the two of you, my most important unanswered questions have been answered! Now just to understand what differentiates external units and figure out which one to buy.
I like Ottocast systems for function and excellent value. Mount a wireless Carplay 10" system in front of the steering wheel, power it and you have excellent realtime navigation (Google maps allows map download as well), realtime messaging by voice and plenty of audio options.
Here's another screen for ya' - has audio output, so if your prius has aux. audio input you can route through your car speakers. Wireless Carplay & Android Auto 7'' Touchscreen Car Stereo with Bluetooth, WiFi, Navigation - Walmart.com

It seems be the one available now. Given it's a dashcam as well I would go for the biggest storage version.
