Tried to price match Amazon on their $260 Optima yellowtop yesterday at Advance Auto Parts, they said no. Left to look for a better deal. And --- !

Just FYI, parts.toyota.com has $50 off $200 for the next two days (and a little change). The battery for a gen 3 is $195 list price there, but one of the local dealers had it marked down to around $170. Added $30 of parts we had been needing (air filter to replace the one eaten by mice, and a heater resistor for another Toyota we have) and $50 does indeed automagically fall off.

With tax and the core charge, I paid $172 and change for the battery plus the other $30 of parts.

Thanks PriusChat for suggesting that I check Toyota, that saved me $100+ compared to the Optima I had thought I needed!

The Optima was a Priuschat darling years ago. Not so much anymore with short life for many and weak terminals.

I agree, always get original Yuasa AGM battery. It can last a very long life. Many can last 10y unlike Optima or other brands. It is still made japan and shipped accross the globe.

My Optima Yellow Top install was September 2015, still testing like new. To be fair it's a garage queen a lot of the time, and hooked up constantly to a smart charger, necessity with low usage.

The Yellow Tops have higher CCA and lower Amp Hours, fwiw.

Maybe I just got lucky: I've heard Optima quality has been dropping off.
