Ugh.... yall the dreaded code appeared. I always thought the exhaust on these things are something awful. But... I did see a video of installing a 02 sensor elbow but did hear that if you tried to get an emissions test it will fail it. But.. to remove it and drive it 1-200 miles. I did clear the CEL/Code to see if it pops up again, I know I was quickly accelerating when when I saw the CEL come up. Would it still be ideal to take it in to get a clear diagnosing before attempting to do the 02 sensor elbow? I know a CAT will cost $$$$. If that elbow does the trick, I would rather spend 100 than 2K on a 06 prius. I did read some interesting comments like the oil seal/chamber wasn't clean, air leak around some other part, etc.. and wasn't the CAT. What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance
Hey Lezlie, Do you still have the original CAT installed? If so, easy decision.. just sell it for scrap and buy a cheap aftermarket version. I sold mine for over $1k a while ago and bought a perfect fit aftermarket CAT on Ebay. The aftermarket CAT failed after exactly 1 year - the seller sent me a replacement for free (less shipping). However, I decided not to install the replacement but instead installed an elbow spacer which has prevented the P0420 code from reappearing going on over a year.
