We recently had an all wheel alignment done on our daughter's 2008 Prius. When he was finished the tech said he got "the rear wheels as aligned as possible".

Apparently there are shims that need to be replaced/installed on the rear axle beam that can only be done by the dealer.

    Anyone know anything about this?

No can be done by anyone . May not have in stock .. the difference they'll make is generally very moot .

Why was an alignment done? What angles are out of spec on your car?

How does the car drive? How are the tires wearing?

There are aftermarket shims that go between the rear wheel bearing assemblies and the axle beam. The shims are typically installed by the alignment tech - since the angles have to be checked once the install is done.
