The rubber part of my blades came off. Never replaced wiper blades before. Does it make sense to get the inserts or replace the entire blades with generic ones? Looking at some of the inserts online, not sure if they will fit or not. A lot of the listings just say the inserts are "universal"
Toyota sells the replacement inserts for their blades, and they've been reported here to be good quality, and not expensive. They'll fit if you have the original blades. I have tended to replace my original blades with the jointless beam-type blades. I started doing that when we used to get winter weather here that would prevent jointed blades from bending at the joints. (There used to be "winter" jointed blades you could buy with ugly rubber boots to keep the joints from icing, but the jointless blades solve the same problem more elegantly.) On the other hand, we get very little of that kind of weather here anymore.
I just installed these on my '02: DENSO EnduraVision OE-Fitment Wiper Blades Front (Set of 2) 24" & 17" | eBay . You can't beat that price, and the blades are OEM top-quality. I did replace just the inserts at one time in the distant past, but it's a fiddly kind of job, and you're probably not going to save any money over the Denso price; indeed, I suspect the inserts alone cost more than new blades from that eBay source.
I replace the inserts, not the full blade. It's cheaper and less prone to skipping vs the non-OEM full blade replacement.
