2024 Prime XSE. We've had it for a month now, and I'm very happy with it. We've had a 2015 for six years now, and it's been a solid standby but starting to feel loud and rattly at 125K miles, not to mention a bit underpowered. The new one is quiet and responsive. I started calling this one "the Batmobile" because of the Lego Movie line - "I only work in black, and very, very dark grey," but my daughters also call it the Batmobile. I even got a favorable review from my Volvo-driving father this past weekend. We tend to drive our cars until they fall apart, so I expect the 2015 will be in our garage a while longer. I'm going to spend some time poking through back threads looking for advice on how I can keep it up; I feel like maybe, after nearly ten years on the road, some stuff is wiggling loose that could be tightened if I knew where to start.
Just parked next to a white or pearl white yesterday while at a Christmas group of singers thingy. Couldn't tell if it was Pearl because there are such cruddy filthy dusty roads around here & the thing had obviously not been washed in at least a couple of weeks minimum. I swear .... the body styling is so similar to some of the 10yr old Hyundai's / genII volts etc. Result of aerodynamics one would suppose. Liking that style too - tho it's hard for some of our old bones to stoop down for egress & ingress. .
EGR carbon cleanout is something I'd recommend every 50K miles. Yes it is a little preposterous, but left alone you're likely to blow the head gasket in the next 50K. See the top two links in my signature (on a phone turn it landscape to see signatures). Water pump and thermostat would be timely too. And transaxle fluid change. (info in my signature) You've done the spark plugs and engine coolant?
I'm flattered by your faith in my abilities I could probably do all those things, but my wife doesn't trust me to do things like that myself (plus, I barely have time). We've been doing the Toyota recommended maintenance schedule, but I'll take this list with me next time; I think the EGR in particular might account for a bit of the noise we've been getting from the ICE in the 2015.
Hello all. I am a newbie to these forums, but am no stranger to the Prius. For my first post, I figured I would share my Prius story (I don't know if this is the right thread but what the heck ). It started with my dad's '07, a #2 package in Magnetic Gray purchased new from Toyota Carlsbad five months after I was born. You could say I literally grew up in that Prius. As it was my family's only car, my mom and I would ride with my dad to work and then take the car home (so we could still have a family car) and pick him up at the end of the day. This was my Prius life for years, but then I started to grow and gain siblings. We bought a used '04 Sienna for the family work and the Prius took on the responsibility of a full time commuter. Long story short, that car took every day of work like a tank, and in all of its life the most major repair to it was some brake work, which was done about halfway through its life. Fast forward to 2018, and the Prius was finally showing its age. We had moved to a farm, and the dirt roads took their toll. Eventually we took it in, and the mechanic said the cats were done. The car's computer had started to break down and the traction battery was at the end of its life as well. The combination of all the failures at once and the amount of money needed to fix everything was the deal breaker for my dad, who decided it was time to get a new car. By this point, the Sienna had already taken on the grunt work of commuting (itself on its last legs), and we had bought a '99 Suburban to replace it as the family car. The Prius was living a sleepy life in the driveway, to be awakened occasionally to limp around the property for various small tasks. Eventually both batteries died, and it was beginning to deteriorate and was a sad sight in the driveway. In 2020 we traded in the Sienna for a new Tacoma SR5. After trying and failing several times to jump the Prius, my dad gave it up for lost, and we ended up selling it for scrap and had it towed away. Right up until the end I wanted to keep that car and restore it to be my first car (being only 13 at the time it was an unachievable wish lol). All in all that Prius soldiered on for 250,000+ miles in almost 12 years, not the longest lifespan compared to those running today but still respectable. Now I am ready to start looking for a car of my own, and if I can get a Prius I wouldn't choose anything else. Maybe a Gen 2 like my dad's or an early Plug-In. I had a few pictures but wasn't sure if I should upload them to the Prius Pictures album. Well PriusChat, you'll be seeing more of me as I begin looking for a Prius eventually! -Tony
After some trial and error, I think I figured out the photos: The day of doom by AVTrainz posted Dec 18, 2024 at 10:28 PM Leaving on the tow truck... by AVTrainz posted Dec 18, 2024 at 10:28 PM Sitting next to the Prius is its successor the Tacoma. Shortly before these pics were taken I had retrieved the badging from the Prius, which I made into a neat little wall display!
Could be you need a minium number of posts (five?) before you can post pics. Try doing a few dummy posts, just run the quantity up, and try again? This button: Or if you've got an image in "clipboard" (windows term, mac's have similar?)), you can simply paste it into the message. Your posted links take me to your member page, but say it's hidden.
Thanks for the tips. The other forums I use only allow uploading images from URL's (a function I do see here), so I didn't even realize the Upload a File was there lol. The pictures are in this post, so if you guys can't see them I'll make a few dummy posts to allow images.
I hope you visit us again to give us your opinions of the Aqua. I can't tell what year it is and I've been waiting patiently for someone to describe how the new Gen 2 (2022 + ) drives. I had to do an image search since I wasn't sure which year, model toyota you have pictured. And I found this ( old computers beware, ad filled browser crashin page linked ) writeup that has more info about the car than I've been able to find on the Toyota s Aqua pages. https://www.motor1.com/news/521015/2022-toyota-aqua-hybrid-reveal/
It's strictly a Japanese version, & a Japanese version of the Prius C ... which was killed off here years ago. .
This is my old Prius handling the winter snow-- it turns out that second gen was amazing in all kinds of weather, even when the emergency snow plows bury them. IMG_20200209_141302 by Onceuponadoe posted Dec 26, 2024 at 5:04 PM And this is my current Prius. (I have a tendency to name my cars after what paid for them. I drove the black one while I worked for a religious University so it was called the Priust and the grey was bought with romance publishing money) 1000000443 by Onceuponadoe posted Dec 26, 2024 at 5:04 PM This silver 2013 was sold to me as a snow Prius. It turns out that's not a real thing but really just a dream.
