Forgive my ignorance, but is there a way to lock the rear hatch door? Because even if the doors are locked (with the remote), the rear hatch will open and then it's fairly easy to get inside my car's interior.

I just purchased this car (about 7 months ago), and I am still learning about it (obviously).

Also, I see no way to get the rear hatch door to lift (open) with the remote. Looks like this hatch door is purely manual. Is that correct?

No it’s not manual. The hatch door should be locking and unlocking with the rest of the doors.

The door does not have a powered open or close mechanism.

The lock on the rear door should be following the behavior of the locks of the passenger doors. When you 'lock all doors' via the switches in the front doors or the button on the remote key, all five doors should lock.

If I remember it right, the lock function for the rear hatch is incorporated in the latch itself- all the fancy parts in a single unit at the bottom/center of the hatch.

You should check to make sure the unit is getting power appropriately from the car since a wiring break could have this effect too.

probably part number 69350-52391 for the lock assembly.

Thank you both for the replies.

So, even if I lock the doors with the remote, if I press the small button on the rear hatch door, I can open the rear hatch door while all of the other doors stay locked, so maybe it is indeed a bad lock assembly.

I am assuming that I should not be able to unlock the rear hatch door from the outside unless I unlock all doors with the remote. i hope that's correct, and I'll double check to make sure that works as expected on my Prius C.

    Again, thanks for the responses.

Pressing the hatch unlock will disable the alarm in the process, but I'm trying to remember if it also unlocks the entire car. Will have to investigate when I'm back home!

The Gen 3 PiP had that unlocking nipple on the rear hatch open pad ( if that sounds the same as described above). The lower trim Gen 4 Prime did away with it, though the higher trims may still have it.

I don't miss it with all the other goodies, that are already hard to remember exactly how they all work.
