    Hello
Toyota Auris 2018 1.8 hybrid ( same as gen 3 Prius everything same setup .
100k miles , no oil loss issues or any other issues

after cleaning everything including egr , cooler throttle & maf & map sensors
The car runs perfect no engine codes ,

but the engine sounds louder now then before ,
    Like when choke is on

    what could it be please

    thanks

    Perhaps you are listening louder?
    Or it's not as muffled....

It was quiter before work was done
1 mistake I forgot to put the side coolant clamp on drove like that 2 weeks then realised & have bled it again , not lost any coolant very luck that .

While driving the cabin sound has become louder
When engine kicks in , like humming sound

I cleaned the throttle body & maf sensor & map sensor
Not sure if any of these culprit

My first guess would be a bit of exhaust leak, at one (or more) of the connections, exhaust manifold to cooler, cooler to valve, valve to pipe, to intake manifold.

1 thing has me confusing the directions of the 2 gaskets on egr valve I always forget

Maybe even Toyota’s confused; I see this gasket in Repair Manual showing clips pointed in intake manifold direction, but I’m fairly certain when I first removed on mine the clips were towards EGR valve.

Those clips are visible, without disassembly. Perhaps someone else can check and comment.

    Hi guys just
Checked & found the egr to cooler gasket wrong way , turned it towards manifold ,
Engine already feels smoother electric to gas ,
I thinks the noise is gone also ,
    Will report after 24 hrs

    thanks

Still begs the question: which are the "wrong" and "right" orientations. The repair manual doesn't clarify.

One thing occurs to me, if you have an interface where one flange has a machined face, and the other flange is stamped, with a fillet at the edge of the hole, it seems practical to place the gasket so the protruding side is towards the stampled flange.

    example attached:

    I. Placed all the gaskets towards the manifold direction flamed side ,
As for the cooler to exhaust that seems flamed both sides

"IF" that resolved your issue, it wasn't that the gasket was the incorrect way.
It was likely you didn't tighten the bolts/nut tight enough...

Main thing is you think there is less noise....

Yeah I think I've done the gaskets two different ways, at least some of them, and it didn't seem to matter. I did see one video, maybe a south Asian guy, specifically checking. And I made the pdf sketch (in post #8) right after watching that, freezing the video to confirm. But I'm not 100% sure. Having the gasket protrusions all pointing downstream seems logical, fwiw, so they're acting (slightly) like funnels.
