2014 C 165K miles. 2nd time I’ve gotten the pull over immediately warning code P084 hybrid battery. This time had a circuit booster code. What is the circuit booster please ? TIA Jack
P084 is not a valid trouble code. Trouble codes for your Prius c have 5 digits. List all the trouble codes that you have, and you will get some help.
Looks like you could have mistyped the code: trouble codes are five characters, so "P084" is missing something. Could you check again and give us the full code? (Or codes, if you have more than one.) "Booster" here probably refers to the boost converter, but we really ought to pause until we can see the exact code(s). Here's a block diagram from a gen 3 liftback, probably good enough for this post, though I don't remember if the c has a nominal battery voltage different from the liftback's 201.6 volts.
The C1259 code and the C1310 (correct description is Malfunction in HV System, not Active Booster Solenoid) code just means that there is a code in the hybrid control ECU, go look over there. The code in the HV control ECU is P0A80 Replace Hybrid Battery Pack. To me, it is surprising that you have a P0A80 code on a 2014 with 165k miles after only 10 years. Get the Dr Prius app to look at the HV battery data. The B1826 code is a completely different problem not related to the hybrid battery.
Can you tell us what app that is you're using? It is giving you the wrong description for C1310. If we know what app it is, the problem can be reported and people warned about it. C1 codes are tricky, because their meanings are manufacturer-defined and can be totally different in different makes or car models. "Active booster solenoid" may well be what C1310 means in some completely different car, but has nothing to do with a Prius. In a Prius, C1310 is "malfunction in HV system", and has a meaning very similar to the C1259 you also have. Both C1259 and C1310 are codes from the braking/stability system, and only mean that system has been told of some other trouble code(s) in the hybrid system—not anything wrong with the braking/stability system itself. In your case, you have the C1259 and C1310 because of the P0A80, a trouble code set in the hybrid system when the battery pack has reached the end of its run. The B1826 isn't related to any of those, but you might check if a yellow connector under the left front seat has been disconnected somehow. (If it has, don't just reach in and reconnect it; there are extra safety steps with airbags.)
OBD Fusion app. Dr. Prius reposts occasional red numbers and P0A80. ICE runs a lot. Hybrid battery doesn’t seem to hold a charge. Jack
The P0A80 is the story. Your observations of runs a lot and doesn't seem to hold a charge are just parts of the same story. The side airbag is just a different story, but might be easy to fix while you're deciding what to do about the battery.
Keep in mind that the c has a smaller pack. 20 modules in 10 blocks, and the hybrid vehicle warranty is shorter as well. 10 years is right on the money for a c, even if it feels a little early for the big-body Priuseses. EDIT: adding- worth noting that the c is almost the same weight as the 2nd generation Prius and drives about the same, yet the battery is 40% smaller. I figure a slightly shorter service life is just how that comes out in the wash.
Yes, I was comparing the c to the Gen 3 hatchback. I have no experience with a c and usually do not read or post in this Prius c forum. Thanks for posting.
